Baby Names

Family is not a huge fan

If we have a boy, hubby and I love the name Malachi Eliseo. We wanted to keep a Hispanic name for middle name because we are both Mexican, but don't like the Spanish version of Malachi (Malaquias).

Both sides of the family hate the name and make jokes about calling him "ca-ca" when we said we might use the nickname Kai for short.
We love the name, but there is no support from anyone on our choices.
Opinions?

  • I think it's great. I wouldn't pay much attention. Once he's here they're gonna call him by his name and they won't have much say in it.
  • Isn't malachi from the bible? Remind them of that and perhaps they will be more respectful.

  • Hmm Im Hispanic and I don't like it either. Just one of those names that doesn't work for me but if you love it don't let them discourage you. Stick to your guns!!

Btw I don't know how you get caca out of that but whatever.

Yes it is biblical which is why I thought they would like it, we were raised in the church!

Lol! I don't know where they made the connection either!! It drives me bananas
  • When I was in high school, I just knew I would have twin boys and their names were going to be Malachi and Micah. Ha! I still like Malachi. Malachi Eliseo is a fine name. If you and your husband love it, go with it. I don't like Kai though.

  • I don't understand how they got ca-ca out of Kai either... and I think Malachi is a very nice, strong name. If you're unsure, have your husband try it out places where they use your name - Starbucks, restaurants, etc and see if you like how it sounds when other people say it.
  • I like it! This is precisely why we waited to reveal baby's name until after he was born.
  • Nice strong name.

  • I think it's an awesome, strong name. Don't let them deter you.

  • Your families are being silly!

My friend named her son Gus, and beforehand the families were like, oh don't do that! But now, they associate Gus with this adorable little boy, so they love the name. It's not like Malachi is some made up name or something, so I say stick with what you and DH love!
