  • Have you struggled with mental health prior to pregnancy at all?
  • Agree with last post above. Please talk to your OB. Your OB should want to monitor your depression/anxiety. Chances are high for post partum depression if you experience depression or anxiety during pregnancy. I know that from experience. I developed a lot of anxiety during month 7-8 of my first pregnancy and to be quite honest with you, the baby blues began as soon as I got home with my new baby. I was afraid to talk to somebody and I regret that. I had thoughts no mother should ever think and I was scared to tell somebody because I didn't want people to think I was crazy. I felt so alone, stuck and I often thought about running away from my husband and new baby. And I can truly say I feel guilty for not feeling attached to my new baby. I didn't know there were others out there like me and could have helped me cope more quickly.

So please, for yours and your baby's sake, please talk to somebody. You'll be glad you did.
  • Tweek, I don't know, but I'm feeling it too. And I have never struggled with depression before, so I'm feeling all out of sorts. I'm going to talk to my OB this week. You do the same, ok?

  • Please talk to a doctor or therapist, you have options and deserve to be emotionally well. If you can't go by yourself, have somebody who understands depression go with you. You have nothing to be ashamed about, you're not weak. You will feel so much better, I promise.

  • I was wondering if I was depressed but things are starting to clear up a little more. I'm 11wk 5 days , its really hard with the nausea and complete change in lifestyle that we go through. How could we not feel a little down or alone ?? My husband has been very supportive but its hard to see him and everyone else living the fun life at the beggining of summer and be stuck on the couch feeling sick :/ I'm finally starting to feel better which has helped my mood a bit. I really think getting out and doing some walking or light exercise , when I can tolerate , has helped a lot. I have also been neglecting myself a bit feeling not so pretty .. So I took a day and got my brows done and bought new makeup :) lastly , I saw the baby via US today . The little one was super active , it reminded me that it will all be worth it ! Of course the change in lifestlye once the baby arrives is scary too !! I know its tough , hang in there :)
  • This is my third pregnancy (1 son, 1 mc prior to this) and I've suffered from severe depression with all three. The first time, I had no idea what was wrong and it took me 4+ months to get treated. When I looked back on it, it's like months of my life were behind some black hole.

The good news is that my psych told me that if you get proper treatment while pregnant, your odds of post partum depression are low, and I had no issues postpartum.
  • Yes, it is common in pregnancy. The hormones really throw your body through a loop, plus you go through so many changes in lifestyle as you prepare for the baby. Tell your OB! You don't have to feel this way. With some help, depression isn't nearly as scary as it is alone.
  • I really appreciate all the replies everyone really helped and I did see my doctor and she said that sometimes it's okay to feel sad, I don't really know what depression is like honestly but I've never been an unhappy person so I guess it freaks me out when I want to cry all the time but my doctor said it's very normal and if I have any thoughts that scare me to go to her right away
