Baby Names

Deflated Name!

First thoughts on the name Brady Thomas? My SO is a huge Tom Brady fan so naturally he is a Patriots fan too! We both grew up in Philadelphia and my entire family are Eagles fans.
Before we got pregnant he would make comments that if he had a boy (we both have two girls each from previous relationships) his name would be Brady Thomas after Tom of course. I like the name and it never bothered me until.... DeflateGate!!! When ever anyone asks me what we are naming the baby (we are team green) I get so many rude comments about him being a cheater or lier and they can't believe I would name my child after such a person! Sometimes I get so upset I wanna cry! I do like the name but I don't like all the negative comments but I'm not sure if it's enough to change the name we both like. Oh and did I mention if it's a girl her name will be Bradi Lynn

  • Bradi is awful

not a fan of Brady either
1st thing i thought of is why would they name their child after him. Not only is he a cheater, he is a whiner as well.
  • I would change the name. I think unless you name your child after Mother Teresa you run the risk of the person you named your child after doing something stupid like cheating to win a football championship, and suddenly your child is saddled with somebody else's bad reputation. I wonder how many people named their kids after Bill Cosby...

These are the perils of honoring a public figure with your child's name.
  • I do not like Brady Thomas, I immediately thought Tom Brady.  I understand being a fan, but do you really want your kid named just for a football player?  If you insist, choose either Brady or Thomas, not both.

    As for Bradi, please don't!

  • I like the name, but wouldn't name my child after a celebrity, especially one who doesn't have the best reputation. I would use Brady and pick a different mn or Thomas and pick a different fn.
  • Tom  Brady is a douche and while I am a die hard bills fan myself I would never name a child after one of the teams players.  The negative thoughts of him are going to overshadow any of his actual achievments because no one likes a cheater, and when "things" happen more than once you lose credibility.  Bradi is AWFUL for a girl.  Seriously name your child their own name, don't saddle him or her with the Tom Brady wrath of cheating, whining, and leaving his first girlfriend for a supermodel.  Not great qualities to name someone after.

  • Yall have we been infiltrated by a tribe of trolls? There's no way we have person who wants to use Zapp, Braxtyn and a girl named Bradi in the span of a week.

Hanging on the BMB and names like these are daily occurances.  I still am questioning some but then I hang over there and lose all hope.

Don't name your kid after a football player. That is asinine. Also, Tom Brady sucks. Also, don't use the name Brady with an i for a girl. That is so foolish. Start over and pick a better name.

  • I wouldn't want my child's name associated with someone who is dishonest and deceitful. Maybe middle name Brady and start fresh with a new first name?

Also not a fan of Bradi. Looks made up. May I suggest Brandice, Brenna, Breanna, Briony, or Brooke? Still has that Br-sound.

    Don't forget Ozzylynn!!!

Read in the paper yesterday that Amy Ray's(of the indigo Girls) daughter is Ozilline Graydon. Apparently it was her grandmother's name and it's her mother's MN.

I feel I need to also bring attention to the bolded.  How do you think YOUR CHILD will feel getting the same remarks their entire life.

  • What if she doesnt like football? Shes stuck with that name for life.  Yikes!
  • Not a fan. Think Bradi for a girl is not a great idea. However, people will always have opinions, it is your choice.

  • When we didn't know the sex yet we joked that Ndamukong was a gender neutral name.
  • I knew a guy in college named Tom Brady just by coincidence, and he never lived it down. I actually felt a little bad for him because he never heard the end of it.

Side note - I also know one woman named Bradi, but she spells it Bradeigh (changing the spelling is not better on this board, I know) but I believe it's of Nordic/Scandinavian descent. ...her husband is named Thor, and he's a total hottie doctor, so I even let that one slide ;)
  • I wouldn't think much of the name Brady Thomas. I think it's weird naming your kid after Tom Brady but whatever. Bradi is absolutely horrendous.

  • I don't like Bradi at all (to my eye it almost looks like it would be pronounced "bratty") but I don't particularly mind Brady, with that spelling, for a boy or girl. (And I'm a Giants fan who despises the Patriots! ; ) #helmetcatch4life
  • I don't mind Brady, and while I think Brady Thomas is a little cheesy, you don't use middle names often enough for it to be THAT big of a deal if you guys love it.

Not a fan of Bradi though.

  • I never understood naming a kid after a celebrity. I think it's dumb. I wouldn't do it. If you don't want comments about Tom Brady then don't name your kid after him.
  • @queenwog as a Hawks fan my suggestions for baby names would also include: Sherman Richard and Beast Mode. No tips for girl names except maybe Colleen Kapernique

I never would have made the connection to Tom Brady, but I find football boring. DH despises Tom Brady. Always has - long before Deflategage.

ETA DH is a HUGE Colts fan. I happened to love the name Peyton (for a boy obviously). I picked it for DS. DH laughed and said people would think he named his boy after Peyton Manning. But he loved it too. Then as a joke he suggested Peyton Andrew (Andrew Luck replaced Manning). I said no way, but I really like the way it sounds. So we agreed on it. We loved that name. Then realized Peyton had been taken over by girls and chose another name. It was sad and if it was about me, I would have stood up for it and kept it. However, it's about DS and he didn't need to be saddled with that. Always correcting people, "actually, it is a boy's name." Still love the name though. His name is Liam. I know it's very popular, but he's named after a little boy DH knew and cared about who his mom used to take care of years and years and years ago (I think he's over 20 now).
