Girl Names, would you change the order of FN & MN?

edited June 2015 in Baby Names
I'm a little worried if I have my first names and middle names ordered the most optimal way on my girl short list. I love them all!

Background:
DS1 is Jakob Shiloh (previous relationship)
DS2 is Christian Michael
DD is Lilah Penelope

If this one is a girl, I don't think I'll ever be able to pick one that compares to DD... it feels impossible to equal, much less top. We won't find out the sex until the birth, and won't finalize our choice until meeting him/her, but so far:

Rebecca Naomi (nn Becca)
Naomi Genevieve
Julia Scarlett
Eleanor Cordelia (nn Norah)

I'm pretty fluid on switching first names and middle names or mixing up the pairs on my girl picks. Genevieve is a (long deceased) family name, if used as a first name nickname would be Evie, then Eva as she gets older (Rachel Weisz as Evie in The Mummy was an awesome intelligent character too). Cordelia would use Cora or Delia as a nickname. Our last name is extremely German and sounds like Stonewall. So far Cordelia, Naomi, and Norah best echo the sounds in our last name, which people stumble over all.the.time, so I think the echo names would kind of work as a warm-up? DH isn't crazy about Naomi... he thinks of Naomi Campbell and I think of Naomi Watts. Because the last name is a bit harsh, it's important to me that any girl name is distinctly feminine-sounding.

Ideas? I want my short list for girls to feel as settled as my boys short list.

Re: Girl Names, would you change the order of FN & MN?

  • I honestly have no ideas! I was playing around with rearranging the news but I couldn't get any to flow together in a way that suited me, but that is only me! I will say that I like all of your names with the exception of Rebecca. What about just going with Norah instead of as a nn? I'm going to mull this around and see if I can find a combo to suggest but I'm the mean time I like the path you're heading down.
  • Thank you for responding! I do love Norah by itself, but DH doesn't for some reason he refuses to explain. Grrr

I was thinking while cleaning up that one name that seems closest to the classy feel of Penelope is Genevieve, so I think I'm favoring it more as a middle now. I really just want to pin down which FN really compares with and complements Lilah in a sibling set.
  • Loading the player...
  • Genevieve Scarlett .....my mom was full German and her name was Genevieve (no nn) it really softened up the German last name.
  • naomi genevieve is my favorite

i love genevieve the most but not the nn's

    naomi is refreshing

Eleanor Cordelia 100%. Then again, I have an Eleanor myself so I may be a little biased :)
  • I like Norah Genevieve best. You need to get DH on board with just Norah! Or maybe Cora. Those are a perfect pair with Lilah.

I also love Genevieve as a fn. Genevieve Scarlett is beautiful.

I like Julia, but just am not crazy about it with Lilah, a little tongue-twistery. Not crazy about Naomi, Rebecca, or Cordelia.
  • Aw man, I was kinda hoping there would be a landslide of votes making a clear winner. That's probably not going to happen. I hope more people weigh in :)
  • I love Genevieve Stella if you're open to suggestion :)
  • Eleanor Cordelia is gorgeous!

    The answer is LORELEI!!!
It is German and feminine and would sound cute with Lilah.

I have a Lorelei Scarlett, so I may be biased but I LOVE her name.
  • I like all the names! I prefer Naomi Genevieve best tho.
  • Out of the new suggestions, I think Cora will stick, only because Cordelia Genevieve with our last name would be quite a mouthful. Stella I have come across multiple times and I'm just lukewarm about it (DH hates). Lore.lei *would* be totally awesome, but a close friend took it and Greta too :( The more I think about it, I'm not that crazy about Eleanor, just Norah, and it's something I'll definitely need to get DH on board with.

    Updated (Evolved) Shortlist:

    Rebecca Genevieve (Becca)
    Naomi Therese
    Alexandra Caroline (Alexa)
    Cora Genevieve
    Cordelia Violet (Cora)
    Genevieve Scarlett (Evie/Eva)

(Options to rotate in: Norah, Julia, Octavia, Aurelia)

Last name starts with a G, so I have to tread very carefully if I use a MN starting with a vowel.

(LMAO! Edited to remove LN from accidental cut & paste. Way to go preggo brain!)

  • I hope this helps, this is what DD looked like around age 2.

One of the big factors in picking her name was if I could imagine myself wearing it and if my SIL could wear it. DH makes little clone kids, they all pretty much look like her. So I guess for now I'll have to think in terms of if DD can wear it.
  • @Lizzie5831 Unrelated, but did you choose the spelling Jakob due to your heritage? DH is Swiss German and is really pushing for it for a boy...
  • I love Eleanor Cordelia :) I think it goes really well with Lilah Penelope And Norah is a beautiful NN
  • @Mamabeagle If I were to name Jakob today at 34 I would've done the c instead of the k, which I chalk up to being 19 and wanting to be unique at the time. I do feel it worked in my favor though that a k is truer to the original name than the c. I was raised uber Roman Catholic (atheist now) and I read/saw many times over that the Old Testament version would've originally called for a k. There wasn't much internet at the time, I was working off a pile of baby name books... Boy was I sort of ticked years later when I found out Jacob was #1 for like, 8 years in a row. Lol.
  • Love Eleanor but they are all great names!
  • Oooh I like Cordelia Violet.

    Julia Violet
  • Cordelia Violet or Cora Genevieve. I also like Norah Genevieve or Norah Therese.
  • I like Lila and Cordelia and Lila and Genevieve.
  • Cora Genevieve is my favorite.
