Anyone else going to be a pregnant bridesmaid?

My sister is getting married in September and I will be 22 weeks along. I already bought my dress, but it is very form fitted so I am hoping I can get it altered to look ok with my bump. I imagine that isn't exactly cheap though. Worst case scenario I will have to buy a different dress but since I am the MOH hopefully that won't look too odd. Just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and what your plans are.

Re: Anyone else going to be a pregnant bridesmaid?

  • I am in 2 weddings. One this weekend. Thankfully I didn't gain any weight but my boobs did get bigger and I didn't lose the weight I wanted to before her wedding.

The next wedding is at the end of August. I'll be 4 and a half months! Since this is my second pregnancy, I'm imagining that I will be showing by then. The dress is somewhat flowy but I will definitely have to let it out. I may even have to find extra fabric....

If you are the MOH, I think it's totally acceptable to have a different dress should you need to. It would be awkward if you were just a bridesmaid but being MOH makes it ok!!

  • I was in a wedding my last pregnancy at 20 weeks. The dress we had to wear was pretty flowy so it worked. I ordered a size up I think and it fit perfectly when it came in....just had to get it hemmed. Sounds like you already have the dress in your hands though. Can you return it for a bigger size? You might have to get a different dress in the same color? I think it would be fine since you are MOH. Dress shops should have a fake bump you can use to guesstimate.

  • I'll be in my cousin's wedding...I think I'll be about 16 weeks then, and may or may not be showing then (it's my first pregnancy so I'm not sure when my body will decide to pop!)...I already bought a dress, but luckily she's doing a mix and match "as long as it's within the color palate" thing for the bridesmaids, so if I need to last second buy a more forgiving dress, I have a little more leeway. When I bought the dress, I had hoped to be pregnant then (it was right before we started trying), but honestly didn't actually count it out assuming I'd get knocked up on the first night we tried, so I expected to be only a couple months along at that point! Oh well, I'll make it work!

  • I'll be 15 weeks at a wedding in early August but as the dress was a little loose to start with so I'm assuming it will be fine.

I'll be 33 weeks pregnant and the maid of honor
  • I'm a bridesmaid at 24 weeks. Dress is empire waisted and I ordered up a size because I always do (would rather have to alter something too big than starve myself for something too small). I'm not too worried. Plus it's a barn wedding and I already got pre-approval to wear flats not heels! Woo!
  • I'll be a bridesmaid at 28 weeks I'm so nervous about the dress... It's an empire waist and flowy but I'm worried about my belly making it too short... Yikes!
  • I'm in one this weekend. Luckily it's early enough not to be a real problem!
  • I'm moh at little sisters wedding next month!:) at this point, I'm not too worried about dress, but I am worried about getting sick while walking down the aisle lol.
  • @mamadcb Agreed, I love when the bridesmaids are visibly pregnant, it does seem like a nice representation of the cycle of life or something. I'm worried about the fact that I'll only be 16 weeks so likely not obviously preggo and will just look fat, sigh. And of course the bride and the other 10 (yeesh, it seems every year the bridal party sizes grow!) bridesmaids are all twigs! C'est la vie :)

  • @CaraBoonie... you make an excellent point :) Never having been a twig myself (and having been a bridesmaid many times!) I certainly understand the "just looking fat." But you have a GREAT reason :-)
  • I was in a wedding last weekend at 6 weeks so it didn't matter. I am in one in September. I bought a dress one size up and its a long flowy dress so not too worried.

As the MOH it should be OK to wear a different dress that's pretty similar. There are tons of brides who have their MOHs wear a different dress from the other bms so they stand out. There are times the bms will wear one color and the MOH will wear the other wedding color. Just ask your sister what she thinks. :)
  • I am MOH in my sisters wedding in August. I'll be 21 weeks. I bought my dress before i was pregnant, luckily with a little extra fabric in the tummy. I have about 4 inches of fabric to play with. The place I bought my dress is letting me wait until the last few weeks before doing the alterations and isn't going to charge the rush fee, thankfully!
My dress is full length brown with a pink sash abd the bridesmaids are all wearing knee length pink dresses.
Like others of you, I'm just hoping I look pregnant and not just like I gained weight!

  • I was in my brothers wedding when I was pregnant for my first. I had to go in four days before the wedding to have it altered. Just don't be upset when you have to buy a dress that's like 8 sizes bigger then you are. They just need to make sure there is going to be enough fabric. But it all worked out and you could tell I was pregnant and not fat in all the pictures. This was much better then my BIL's wedding that thankfully I wasn't in but it was less then 2 weeks after second baby was born and I just look fat in every picture.

  • I'm a bridesmaid for my SIL, I'll be 28 weeks. I'm not sure what to do yet, I already had the dress taken in before I found out, and it's a lacy dress so I think the fit is going to be pretty bad on a 6 month bump. Ah well, I haven't told the bride I'm pregnant yet, we can discuss it when I do.

I bet you're all going to look fabulous in your dresses!
  • I was a bridesmaid last pregnancy at 6 mo along. I had already bought my dress WAY in advance so I did have to have it altered. Luckily it had a flowy outside layer, but the inside was form fitting, so the basically split the fabric down the middle where my belly was and inserted a stretchy t shirt like material that was the same color as the dress. It worked out. Good luck, I hope you find a good seamstress. I'm sure they can make something work for you!!

  • I am in almost the exact same situation! I am the MOH in my sisters wedding in September! I will be 21 weeks pregnant! We were trying to conceive when we purchased the dresses so I actually bought mine a size to big hoping alterations would be okay! Knowing that they can take in and let out 2 sizes! I just hope my dress looks okay compared to the other girls in the bridal party!
  • Well, it depends on if my brother gets married this Sept or next. I'm refusing to buy my dress until I know for sure because I don't know how big I'll be at 5 months and I definitely have no idea what my body will look like a year from then.
I would try getting some quotes from alterations people that don't work for David's Bridal or wherever your dress is from. You might be able to find someone to do it cheaper.

I will be a bridesmaid at 28 weeks! Thankfully whenever I got the dress in January I ordered a size up as a 'just in case'.  Also, it is an empire waist so it should flatter me very well :)
  • Since you MOH wearing something different is fine, plus you should wear something you feel cute in to enjoy the day! I'm sure your sister will be on board with whatever ends up working for you.

I was a MOH 7 weeks PP and I'd MUCH rather have done it pregnant- my body was a disaster so I felt I looked awful and I kept having to leave to pump- terrible!

  • With my first pregnancy (2 yrs ago) I was 5 months preg in one wedding, and 7 months in a second wedding.  I had both dresses altered to fit the bump.  The first dress was form fitting, and I had ordered it wayyyy before knowing I was preg.  I took it to a my tailor a week before, he told me to go buy fabric that I could find that most closely matched it.  He then added a triangle panel along the sides, under each arm.  It blended perfectly and no one could tell at all that I had had anything done to the dress.

You might want to try going to a tailor and seeing if they have suggestions for you that can be specific to the dress.

The second dress was Jcrew Bridal, so they were really awesome exchanging the dress and finding a style/size that was better suited for a 7 mo bump.

  • I'm a hostess in a wedding in August at around 19 weeks. I had to reorder my dress and tried on a larger size with a faux bump at David's Bridal (hilarious!). I'm gonna look like a chiffon whale, but I'm SO excited to be pregnant I could care less.

I think pregnant brides and bridesmaids are awesome! Weddings are about love and family, and that's where babies come from LOL.

Best of luck to you all with your dresses, I know we'll all be BEAUTIFUL :x
  • I will be a bridesmaid in a September wedding. I will be 24 weeks. Luckily my dress was already big so I was going to get it altered down anyways (we ordered online). I think that since you are the MOH and pregnant it would not be weird at all to have a different dress. We all have different dresses anyway and the bride is super laid back. She is just excited that I'm gonna be a momma too!! Congrats and good luck with your little peanut!

Im going to be a bridesmaid at just over 12 weeks - the dress is form fitting so hoping not to show too much. Also I haven't told the bride yet as I'm keeping it to min numbers until after 12 weeks. Plus i don't want her to feel like any of the attention is taken off her in the run up to her big day! Some creative excuses are going to be needed for not drinking at her Hen night in a few weeks time!

I won't be a bridesmaid, but I'll be a bride! I'll be 11 weeks when we get married in 2.5 weeks-- not far enough along to be showing, but my dress is already tighter in the boob area... fortunately it's flowy below the bust.

Also, I love when there are pregnant bridesmaids in weddings. I don't know why exactly, but it seems appropriate somehow that the women standing up with the bride represent various stages of life.
Same here! I will be 10 weeks. I haven't gained weight but my natural waist has changed. Thankfully I have a corset back on my dress. I am 5 foot tall and I have a feeling everything is going to start changing soon! I just hope everything goes smoothly. I never cried before baby and now I am a puddle about everything!
  • I am in one in a few weeks, I'll be 13 weeks so I wont have much of a baby bump but my bloat will definitely not be flattering. At least its a small beach wedding :)

  • I'll be 36 weeks at the next wedding I'm in, awesome. My DH is the best man too. I'll probably just show up in a tent.

  • If we make it that far, I'll be 22 weeks at my friends' wedding in September. The girls keep texting me about going to pick out dresses but I don't want them to know about the pregnancy yet so I'm putting that off as long as possible. With my first pregnancy I had to order a dress when I was 9wks pregnant for a wedding 5 months later. I ended up miscarrying and had to get the dress majorly altered and it sucked. Would love to avoid that again.

  • I will be just over 12 weeks in my own Wedding, nervous but excited!!
  • I panicked at my brother's wedding when I was 24 weeks pregnant with my first. I had to buy a dress 2 sizes bigger. I could've taken it in everywhere, it was swimming on me. They altered my top and hemmed it. Since it was flowy, the rest was fine. Loose, but fine. At the time, I was ripping tight fitting clothes off of me because they were making me panick! Lol so it will all work out and be beautiful!

  • I'll be 26 weeks at my sister's wedding and I'm the MOH. I LOVE two of the maternity bridesmaids dresses on the David's Bridal site, but they're only available online. The people in the store suggested going up a size, but I'm worried it won't fit right up top (and the dresses my sister likes on me don't have any stretch in the "bump area," which is another issue...does anyone have any suggestions? Or know of somewhere else to find a dress?
  • Pregnant bridesmaids are so cute to me. I just think it's darling.
  • Yes! My sister is also getting married in September. I will be 20 weeks when she gets married! We bought my dress in a size six instead of four. It's a gorgeous dress. I'm so excited! I'm her matron of honor :)

I'll be in my friends wedding in October and I will be 5 months pregnant. Luckily the dress is flowy so it should still fit!
  • I will be 22 weeks (with my second) in my cousin's wedding. She had us all get navy knee length skirts and ivory shirts. I was so excited to go all Carrie Bradshaw and bought a tulle skirt. Now I will wear it over my bump and probably look like a tutu but it's fine
  • @CaraBoonie I'm 16 weeks now with my first preg and honestly it's not really noticeable (I posted to HDBD) until after I eat, so unless the dress is already restricting for you, I think you should be fine :)

I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding Oct. 30. I'll be 28 weeks at that point! I bought the dress a month before I got pregnant in a size 6, and then exchanged it for a size 12, at the suggestion of the sales lady :-(. I'm just hoping that I don't need a ton of alterations, as it's a form fitting dress!
  • I'm maid of honor in my best friend's NYE wedding. I'll be 38 weeks pregnant in emerald green satin. God help me.
