How to kick the caffeine?

We are going to start TTC at the end of this year. I'm an egg donor so I'm already in baby prep mode! Eating healthy, no alcohol, no caffeine, etc.

My husband however is still an avid drinker and has major caffeine cravings(several cups of coffee redbull and caffeine pills)! What did you do to kick the habit I would love to start helping him, giving him pointers. He's ready to start getting healthy!

  • Oh man, this is a tough one! I would say the biggest trick to cutting/stopping my caffeine was getting a good night sleep. It was tricky because it was a vicious cycle needing espressos to stay awake then not being able to sleep because of drinking them too late in the day. I was also going through job stress at the time so sleep was a struggle anyway. I was drinking 5-6 espressos a day. I started cutting back on the caffeine slowly and it was still a struggle but once I started sleeping a bit more I felt more in control and I was able to work on my job situation. Then it was sort of a reverse cycle where I could cut back more and sleep better.

    I drink coffee still, usually a cup of decaf in the morning. I enjoy it now though, the smell, the taste, the color it turns when I add my Rice Dream. When I was drinking too much coffee I didn't even like it that much, I just had to drag myself from cup to cup.

    I guess like anything that we can become dependent on, there are physical and mental reasons.
