Swimsuit trouble!

So, I just spent my evening going to every single store in the city that has maternity clothing, to find a bathing suit. No store had anything that fits my ginormous breasts. I should be used to this, as this was a problem pre-pregnancy as well, but gosh I just cant deal with this! Im not used to summers here at all so I *NEED* the pool to survive, but I dont have any way of getting a swimsuit that fits. Everything that fits my boobs is a complete tent on the rest of my body, its like in order to have boobs this size, you absolutely have to be at least 400 lbs according to swimsuit makers, which is flatout ridiculous.

I really dont know what I'll do this summer, I need to be able to cool down, but I cant exactly jump in with my normal clothes! I would, actually, but our pool doesnt allow for it. Last summer here I ended up in the hospital a lot because I was unable to cool my body down because I cant sweat, and for the largest part of summer I didnt have a pool available to me. Now I'm pregnant on top of it and I just dont know how I'll deal with the heat. This is not an issue I expected to have since we moved to a place that has a community pool.

I'm used to clothes shopping being absolutely horrible for me. I'm used to crying every time I attempt it. What I'm not used to is being 20 weeks pregnant, hormonal, and having my boobs be even bigger than they normally are. What I'm not used it to having boobs that are so ginormous that I'll not even be able to swim this summer.. What I'm not used to is being turned away from maternity stores that are supposed to specialise in growing breasts. I feel completely defeated.

So, yeah, anyone that's expressed jealously of large breasts, here's one good reason to count your fucking blessings and move on.

  • I'm sorry you're having so much trouble.  Have you tried a store called Everything But Water?  Could be worth a shot.  It goes both ways sometimes.  Apparently in order to have very small breasts I have to be an XS in every shirt or dress size...boo.

  • Thanks for the store suggestion! Sadly, it seems like there's none in my state, and with my body being the apparantly weird size that it is I do need to try things on. We've seen at least 5 things today that theoretically should fit but just plain didnt even come close to being right on me, so ordering online is not exactly an option. I much appreciate the thought though, very kind :)

  • I am wearing a regular tankini, not maternity, that has a long top, so it stretches over my belly.
  • Even pre-pregnancy I have a hard time (read: it took me literally 7 months) finding a tankini that fits. By now, I'm busting out of that way too much, and finding an even larger cupsize without increasing the bandsize seems impossible. I've tried the company I got my old tankini from, but it would appear that the one I got was the largest size they have.

I feel ya. I can't even entertain the idea of putting a swimsuit on this new body. The horror! Lol Have you looked online? I usually buy stuff from Bare Necessities. They sell separates in much larger bra sizes and I *think* they have maternity items as well. Fingers crossed for you!
  • I ordered mine off alwaysforme.com. They have several different choices for different body types. Maybe they will have something for you too.
  • @nsaid4u Unfortunately this pool is pretty strict about their clothing guidelines. It has to visibly be swimwear or you'll not be allowed in. If it werent for those darn rules I'd just keep my clothes on and jump right in!

@Birdee212 @whitemn04 Ordering online doesnt tend to go well. If something doesnt quite fit, returning is a nightmare where we live. Things are never picked up the first few attempts, so it ends up taking weeks. And with my odd sizes, I tend to send stuff back a lot before finding something. When I lived with my mom, sending things back was quite easy so we tried a lot of different bras and tankinis.. But before finding something that fit we'd often be on the 10th order, which would be at least 20 weeks with the post service here, aka at my due date if I started now!

  • Have you tried a bra store? There's one in my area that also does specialty swimwear, for maternity, those who have had mastectomies, etc. Quite a bit more expense, but possibly worth it. Or at least someone there can send you in the right direction.
  • Holy hell this is so true! I can never find a bathing suit I like that actually fits my boobs and doesn't look like a mumu. I found one a couple years ago that I absolutely love and I don't want to stretch it out with my pregnant belly. It's an absolute nightmare trying to find something now. I was nearly in tears a couple nights ago. I asked Facebook where to find good maternity bathing suits and nearly everyone said target... which turned out to be absolute total bust (even online). It kills me.

I bought this because the reviews stated that it was big in the bust.

It works for me. Doesn't have a ton of support but covers the girls so I'll keep it. For reference I am a 36-38DDD. I bought a large and it is nice and roomy in the tummy, so I hope it will last me all summer.
  • Could you get away with wearing a rash guard over your normal bra? You know, the kind that surfers wear to avoid getting over sun exposure, rashes from the board. I have no idea if sizing would also be an issue, but if it's not then at least it's appropriate for wearing in the water.
  • @cgummie When I go to a bra store, I end up being send from store to store to store to even find something that comes close to my pre-pregnancy size (38G/H). The one store close to me that carries that size sadly doesnt do swimwear at all.

@ksully1776 Might sound odd, but I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I tried target as well, just made me want to cry really.. nothing even close to a good size for me!

@megggles 38DDD wont work for me at all sadly, I just got sized at one of the stores and the girls are up to a 38J!  :((

@alexazen Ohh you mightve found a loophole there! I'll have to ask management about that one and hope they allow that!! Fingers crossed! Definitely will be looking into that :)

I appreciate you all trying to think with me, you all rock <3

  • I'm currently a 32J, so I understand your frustration. I was able to find a non maternity tanikini top that has ruched (sp?) sides that are controlled by ties. The ties allow it not to look like a tent. I obviously had to buy several sizes up. I found it at Kohl's 3 years ago when I was pregnant, but the point is that there may be something similar out there.
I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this, I know how bad having giant breasts can make you feel about your image. Add pregnancy on top and it's not pretty. Know you're not alone. I hope you can find something that works for you.

*Can I just say how impressed I am with the resourceful answers so many posters gave?! Really great responses and suggestions! So many possible options I never would have thought of!

  • I am going to second rhe rash guard. Tell them you are concerned about sunburns on your pregnant belly as well. I'm pretty sure they cannot tell you no for a rash guard because it IS swimwear and most children wear them because they have delicate skin (my nephew isn't allowed in the pool/splash park anymore if he doesn't have it on).

  • The leasing office is closed today, so no update on this yet, but I just want to say how much you ladies rock for giving all these suggestions. Yesterday night I had tears in my eyes with frustration, now I keep tearing up at how awesome you all are and how sweet and helpful all the responses are. You ladies honestly have no idea how much it means to me that you all want to help out, it's made my day.

I got this one in black. It's very flattering. I'm tall, just for perspective. I have a bikini i wear for tanning but i love this suit so so much. I've gotten tons of complements and now that my belly is out its totally cute and i can run around after my littles without feeling like I'm going to bust out of my suit.
  • Keeping my fingers crossed they let you wear a rash guard- that sounds like the best option

It might sound weird but you could always find a suit that fits the top and have the rest of it altered. Might be less of a hassle and at least you know it will cover everything. The specialty bra store by me does bra alterations (found this out when they told me they didn't carry maternity bras in my size, thanks a lot!) so maybe one by you does too?
  • When I look at their sizing chart, they dont even have a 38D, let alone a 38J, their chart only goes up to DD.. So much for "for all" hehe :P thanks for thinking with me though ;)
