Thumb suckers

I've got a little thumb sucker. He loves it. However, his poor thumb stays red and dry almost all the time. I've tried lotion but that doesn't tend to work well and have though about baby vasoline.

Any other moms having trouble with their thumb suckers? What are you doing for the dry, cracked skin?

We have a thumb sucker too. Although, our DD usually only does it when she is getting tired or sitting peacefully. I haven't noticed any redness or dryness so maybe she just doesn't do it often enough to get that way.

I would be interested to know a solution in case that does start happening. Let me know if you have found any solutions
