Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Blood Tests after miscarriage

I had a late miscarriage at 16 weeks. I had my FU appt today and my dr said she wanted to run a bunch of things while we wait for my cycles to return. Did your dr run a gazillions tests after your miscarriage? I am having every blood test under the sun run like 20 cials of blood worth. Are these tests normal protocol? She had tests run on the baby and they didn't find anything abnormal.

Re: Blood Tests after miscarriage

  • First of all I'm so sorry for your loss! If I understood your right this is your first miscarriage? If so it's not that common to take all of these test right away, however things like your age and
that you had a 2. trimester miscarriage without anything abnormal found with the baby can be reasons for why your doc choose to have this testing done. Most women don't get this done until after 3 losses(when they're diagnosed with RPL, like myself). I wish you good luck and FX for you!

  • First, so sorry for your loss :( (((HUGS))))

Second, normally you would have to experience repeated losses to get this kind of VIP testing. Because you loss was a second trimester loss, though, things tend to get taken more seriously in my experience. I have no clue how much blood they took with my first loss because they were taking it from an IV while I was laboring (20 w 5d loss). But I know this time I have given a good 15-20 vials, at least. Between testing for autoimmune issues, chromosomal abnormalities and the usual post-preg and pre surgery blood tests, I have lost a lot of blood in the process. The good part is hopefully it will provide some answers.
