Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Pregnant D&C nurse

So my main nurse this morning for my D&C was super nice and also super pregnant. The logical side of me knows I don't expect her to quit work or avoid certain cases just bc she's pregnant. But, I seriously didn't needed her pregnant belly rubbing me while she was changing my IV

Re: Pregnant D&C nurse

  • I mean really. They couldn't have put her with someone else.

My main nurse referred to my husband as "the Dad" during my D&C procedure. "Okay Dad, do you have any questions?" We don't have any other children and so this made us uncomfortable.

The same nurse asked, "What's wrong?" when she walked into the room and I was crying before surgery. I mean do you really have to ask?

My anesthesiologist and recovery nurses were the best so i focus on that part if my mind wanders to that day.

  • I'm a dental hygienist and my recovery nurse was one of my patients. Well I guess we're even now lol.
  • Wow. I feel like they had a nurse that was not pregnant that they could have put you with. The likelihood of them having all Prego nurses has to be slim. That is insensitive if you ask me. Sorry you had to deal with that. :(
  • They really should have had a dif nurse work with you. Perhaps you can call the hosp and not name names but explain that you were there for a D&C following a miscarriage and, while she did nothing wrong, it was salt in an open wound for you and ask if they can possibly keep this in mind for the future. Maybe your experience could save another woman/women from the same experience.

In my case my anesthesiologist was a parent from my DH's t-ball team, who knows my hubby well and recognized me AND a family friend's wife (who didn't know I was preg to begin with) works in same day surgery. Fortunately, the first was really sweet and apologized for my loss and the second has asked DH how I am doing but saved me the embarrassment of asking me anything... also I don't think she was in the OR during the time of my D&C. Unfortunately, her job is to clean the OR after... I don't know how messy D&Cs are but I just keep picturing her mopping up my blood or something. I still can't look her in the eye :(

  • Wow, I can't imagine they wouldn't think that wasn't a good idea.

I went for a general check up the other day and they had me answer a bunch of question, and then I had to tell them about the MC and one of the questions was are you feeling anxious and I was like yes and the nurse asked me why?  I was like weren't you just here when I told you I had a miscarriage of course I'm anxious, and then she said maybe I need to go to a support group.  I'm pretty sure anxiety is a valid feeling after a MC.

Anyway sorry that happened to you.
