Trying to Get Pregnant

Surprise BFP followed by CP (loss mentioned)

I started seeing a specialist recently. Earlier this week, I took a HPT and discovered that I had gotten a BFP naturally, which was shocking since I have such hormone issues. She ordered blood tests and called me yesterday and simply said "you are very very early in your pregnancy." We were so excited. This morning I woke up to the painful signs of a chemical pregnancy. I called the doctor and she said, "I am not surprised. Your hGC levels were so low, they were below what a pregnancy test would pick up. See me Monday." I can't help but be a bit upset about that. If she KNEW that my levels were that low why didn't she say anything? I would have prepared myself for this instead of being all excited.

DH and I have both accepted what happened and are focused on our next attempt. This post is more of a vent then anything but would any of you be upset about what the doctor said? I will get over it but its just kind of crappy.

I'm sorry you are going through this.
I was very recently in a similar situation.
One hcg draw is not a good determination of how the pregnancy will turn out. A low hcg could have meant very early. That's probably why your dr didn't assume the worst.

I'm sorry for your loss. I experienced two chemical pregnancies and though they are very early losses, they are still losses.

I think your doctor's comment was a bit out of line. I understand why she didn't mention the concern though- what if the pregnancy was actually viable and she ended up worrying you unnecessarily? The early days are filled with so much uncertainty.

    Sending hugs your way.

  • Thank you. My DH said the same thing about the doc's comment but she made it sound like the results showed something significant. Either that, or I am just going through the anger phase right now. That's probably it.

    Let yourself grieve.

Personally, I wasn't deeply affected by my first CP but the second hit me like a ton of bricks and I found myself crying out of nowhere even weeks later.

Something like this affects everyone differently. Don't let anyone tell you what's the "right" way to feel. You need to work through it on your own terms.

I wish you the best of luck and hope you get your take home baby soon.
