Echezma

So who else is suffering from echezma ... I had it all my life, but usually use hydrocortisone 1% prior to pregnancy, but I looked it up and it's not recommended during pregnancy. So now to see my dr ... Lately my flare ups have been horrible, with my last pregnancy my echezma completely went away.. This pregnancy made it twice as worse !! Here's a pic of my arms... Any suggestions ??!! I have Vaseline on it now, seems to taking the burning away but the rash unsure yet..

Re: Echezma

  • I have it but not bad. My eczema generally only really breaks out around my period or when I am pregnant!

  • Ugh it's terrible this pregnancy, but went away last pregnancy ! Any thing you tried that worked ? @batmom05
  • Mine seems to be hormone and food driven. I can usually keep it at bay by watching my diet when I know a flare up is coming. The dr gave me prednisone in my last pregnancy when it got really really bad. I'd say mention it to the doc next time you go!
  • Yea I'm gonna make an appointment for it. I can't handle the itchy and soreness, it's driven me bonkers !

My daughter's flairs up during the winter months and we slather her in aquaphor. Might be worth a try.

  • @aah1013 I'll defiantly try that ! I need something before I rip my arms off haha
  • I only ever had minor patches that would go away with cortisone 10 in the past. Now it's been horrible! My OB told me to see a dermatologist ... Well they can't see me for 4 more weeks.

So someone at work told me to take a probiotic (specifically culturelle) for my constipation and said it would probably help my eczema . I ran it by my OB and he okd it. 4 days later it's so much better!!!
  • At the drug store you can get a lotion called galaxal base (your in Canada right?). It is an unscented base for a lot of moisturizers. I use it for flare ups, it works great. For really bad ones I have mixed a tiny bit of hydro cortisone in with the lotion and applied. You need less and it goes a lot further. Good luck. I know how freaking itchy it is! Also found this, maybe there are a few good ideas here https://wellnessmama.com/12065/natural-eczema-remedies/

  • @MrsN092714 hmm I have a glycerin type of cream I wonder if that's the same as the galaxal base ! That stuff didn't seem to work unless I had my hydrocortisone cream to apply with it and once my flare ups were gone to just use that to keep it away ! I'm gonna try coconut oil ! I also picked up vitamin e ! Here's to hoping I can be itch freeeee
  • A cold cloth brings some relief too, even if it's just momentary, it's something!

I noticed when my sons immune system is low his eczema is flared. Cetaphil lotion had been a lifesaver. Apply twice a day!

I seen cetaphil at shoppers the other day ! I'll have to try it !!
  • If it makes you feel any better, mine is ten times worse than yours. Hydrocortisone is ok, pretty weak steroid. Since second trimester ive been using protopic (tacrolimus ointment) occasionally. Safe in small doses. Also ice packs and go to the beach! UV is great for eczema and for many, so is the salt water. Coconut oil is a great moisturizer that I use three times a day. It absorbs so well. I also keep a metal bowl next to the bed so if I wake up scratching, I can grab the cold metal and use it as a cold compress. Best of luck.
  • I'm so nervous to try anything new on my echemza where it's flared up ! It seems to have gone down in swelling a little since applying vitamin e for a few hours ! Can't wait to see my Dr !!

I had bad eczema my entire life. When I was a kid, I would scratch til I bled! Unrelated, I found out I had a thyroid issue in my twenties. I went on medication and I haven't had a break out since. I do not know if they are related, but you can always ask your dr to check your thyroid levels. It's just a little blood work.

The stuff I had is hydrocortisone 1% but it's by prescription !
  • I have it now from being pregnant they gave me a shampoo and a lotion because im itching so bad. I didn't have this with my first child.
  • Have you tried eliminating certain foods from your diet? If you have any gluten intolerance, eczema can flare up. Same with dairy, and other foods
  • I have it bad on my fingers. It started the same month I found out I was preggers. So far it has been 6 months of itching. Cortizone cream helped control the itch. So far it has not made it go away tho. The dry cracking from washing my hands is driving me batty. My toddler gets dirty often, between making food, and bath time, it has been really frustrating to constantly lube up. Heaven forbid I take a shower too, my doctor is out of ideas and suggested a specialist. What is safe for pregnant woman to use?
