My baby girl was born on Monday May 25th, 8 days early. We were set to be induced on the 26th but she had other plans as my water broke Sunday at dinner time. Before birth the ob had seen something at an u/s at 27 weeks where she had fluid on the brain mild ventricular meglamolmy so I was sent to a mfm at the time and for the next 3 months. They had given me 4 scenerios of things that could be wrong, trisomy 13, 18, 21 and dwarfism because the bones were small. I didn't do chromosome testing during my pregnancy because the odds for downs with someone my age is 1 in 1200, and even with the soft markers a 4 percent. When she was born Monday morning, it was pretty evident that she has it. I got to spend some skin to skin with her after birth but that afternoon she had trouble regulating her temperature. She was sent to the nicu and has been there ever since. Currently she is hooked up to monitors to track her breathing since she was having trouble with oxygen levels. She is hooked up to Ivs to give antibiotics in case she has an infection and they have put a feeding tube in since she wasn't drinking enough milk and having trouble keeping her tounge back. They have done an echo and said there was a small tear between 2 chambers of her heart, this may or may not require a shunt. They don't know if it will require surgery but it shouldn't be immediate. The hardest part is not being able to hold her as everything right now has been a lot to take in. Here is a picture of baby Renee
What a precious baby! Congratulations again, and so sorry that you're facing such tough circumstances. I hope that things start to improve over the next few days and that you get to hold your baby again soon! Sending hugs and prayers!
I know it may be a lot to take in right now, but she is beautiful regardless. My brother was very sick as a baby and was later diagnosed with autism, but with patience and grace we were able to get through all the hardships. I didn't mean that as a comparison in any kind of way, but more to encourage you that by the grace of God (whether you're religious or not) you can get through it all and love your little girl like nothing else. Thoughts and prayers and well wishes to you.
What a beautiful little girl.. Sending t&p for quick healing and strength and hope she'll be in your arms in no time.
P.s, I've read some really great blogs from people whose child was unexpectedly born with ds I will try to find them for you and post the link if you'd like
My heart goes out to you! A baby in NICU has to be hard. Hopefully you will be holding her soon! You have my t&p. Please keep us updated on Renee's health.
Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl! My thoughts and prayers are with you, your partner and baby Renee as you navigate through these unexpected complications. I hope you'll be holding your girl soon!
Renee is so beautiful! Im sorry her entrance into the world has been complicated and stressful but I'm praying for you, your husband and your beautiful daughter to receive all the support and love you need right now. We're all here for you too!
Congratulations on your beautiful baby! Please keep us updated and as PP said T&P are with you that she has a quick NICU stay and you're able to hold her soon!
Congratulations! I hope you will soon bring your bundle of joy home. Babies with ds grow up to be the most loving and kind hearted adults. I am a care provider to a 39 year old with ds and she is such a blessing! Times can be difficult but they are innocent souls who can succeed in life beyond people's imagination.
She's gorgeous. I have nothing different to say that PPs haven't already said, except that I used to work with developmentally delayed adults and one of my clients had D.S. He was one of the sweetest most precious people I have ever met. He was very smart, he loved to read and do jigsaw puzzles. I know you're going through an unexpected and tough time, but I know you will be an amazing mom! I hope she thrives and that you will get to hold her again, soon!
Congratulations she is perfect. Praying for her to get stronger and can go home soon. She is going to be amazing at whatever she'll does because she has an wonderful loving mom. My best friend for 27 years sister has DS and she is nothing but amazing. She just turned 30.
A blog I've been following for years Enjoying the Small Things (kellehampton.com) her second daughter was born with DS. It was a huge surprise after she was born as they never did testing when she was pregnant. She wrote a book called Bloom, I cried I laughed I wanted to be her best friend when I got done reading it. It's the story prior to and after her daughter was born. She's open and raw and honest. I highly reccomend it.
Congrats on your beautiful baby girl! Sending you both all the strength in the world as you start this next phase of your journey together. I wish I could provide the exact right words of comfort. We remain here to support you, as needed.
Congratulations, she's lovely. My hopes and wishes that you will get to hold her and take her home soon, and that everything will go smoothly with her transition to home when it comes.
Congratulations on your beautiful baby, my thoughts are with you both, hoping she's well enough to head home soon! I can't imagine how you must be feeling but as PPs have said (I have experience with special needs children as well), a baby with d.s. will be a wonderful blessing, they are beautiful souls. I know there are lots of great support groups, books, etc. for strong mamas just like you when you're ready to focus on anything besides getting your darling healthy and home!
What a beautiful lil' girl! Congratulations to you and your family. I hope the upcoming days and weeks are relatively smooth. We'll be thinking of you.
God gave you an angel to look after. We to were diagnosed with soft marker/heart defect. We turned down any further testing and are praying for the best, whatever that may mean. *biggggg hug*
Congratulations! Renee is gorgeous! I will be sending you both T&Ps, how tough it must be to not get to hold her. I hope she is healthy soon and can bounce out of the NICU so you can enjoy bonding with her
