How much pain before I should be concerned?

Hello ladies,

FTM here! I've had some slight discomfort/pain and I just don't know if it's normal and not to worry or if any pain is considered bad. I'm 17w2d and have been experiencing the following:

-slight aches in the lower abdomen (is this just my uterus stretching?)
-a feeling of little occasional pinches in the lower abdomen, as if someone is pinching the inside of my skin (could this be flutters?)
-lots of soreness, mostly in the legs and feet, but some in the lower abdomen

I figure it's all normal and nothing to worry about, but I wanted to check. Thanks!

Re: How much pain before I should be concerned?

  • Maybe it's just you belly and uterus stretching out!? I get many weird aches and pains and they eventually go away! If ur really concerned tho I would call ur ob office and ask! That's what I always do!

I'm having the same thing. I assume and have been told its muscles and ligaments stretching. I would only be alarmed if the pain becomes UNBEARABLE, if you're unsure call your OB. Try ice/heat, or plain Tylenol if you're comfortable taking it.

  • All of that is normal. There is a lot stretching out in there. I wouldn't worry until it's unbearable or feeling crampy.
Also try drinking more water. That always seems to help.

It the pain in your abdomen is just annoying I would not worry about it (might just be worth mentioning at your next dr appointment). If the pain is disrupting your daily routine, I would call your Dr.
As far as your feet and legs, are they swollen? If you may want to look into compression socks or stockings to help.

Are the abdominal pains like period cramps, and do you have any bleeding?  If not, I'd say that sounds like RLP, which is a totally normal byproduct of a stretching uterus.  Achey legs, hips, back, etc. are all normal, too.
  • I agree with all the PP.  All the aches and pains sound typical.  Any of the muscle cramp issues in the stomach area shouldn't be concerning unless they're worse than your normal menstrual cramping and even then are usually nothing if not accompanied by bleeding.  If you don't have it, I highly HIGHLY recommend the book What to Expect When Expecting.  It's excellent about explaining what's normal and what is potentially concerning on a week by week basis and answers common questions.  It's where I usually go first when I get worried and was such a help in my first pregnancy when everything was completely unknown.

  • The quick little pinches and zings sound like round ligamnet pain. I am also having some of that abdominal aching and experienced it in my last pg too. I let my OB know I am feeling it again and she said it was the organs shifting. Like other posters said, I would only be concerned if it becomes unmanageable, like you are doubled over in pain or of course, if there is blood.

  • I was also concerned about this but when I had a miscarriage the cramping was really bad & wouldn't even let me sleep but I consider all the ones you're mentioning normal from stretching, the pain I had with the miscarriage was internal and severe. But what I've felt with these pregnancy is more muscular, even when I sneeze sometimes my belly hurts like if I had excersised a lot, and it's more uncomfortable than painful and usually it eases when I change position and sometimes I feel also the little pinches on both sides of my abdomen, so I wouldn't be too concerned unless it's really painful.
  • Thanks, everyone! Nothing is really that painful. It's the little pings and pinches I'm mostly worried about. It might be enough occasionally to cause a brief wince, but nothing unmanageable.
