Baby Names

OCD naming

my older two girls are named Jayda cadence. And Breena Payton. Both 12 letters. 2 syllables each name. Both first names end with A.. Okay so now baby girl #3 is about to arrive. And I fell in love with the name Alexa. (3 syllables..) I'm okay with that. It ends with a so I still win... But I can not find a middle name I love, let alone like.. I do like naveen.. And it seems to be the one that's stuck in my head right now.. It's not 12 letters.. But it's not far off.. Anyways, does anyone else have name Themes, or OCD craziness like me. Before I was very determined to have it be 12 letters, end with a, 2 and 2 syllables. Lol but it's not gonna work this time so I had to come to terms with it.

Re: OCD naming

  • Yes... come to terms with it

  • Well yeah I guess I'd claim to be pretty ocd as well, but more so concerning the *way* a name is spelled than the number of letters in the name.
  • Loading the player...
  • What about Mya, Cora, Clara, Georgia for first name 2 syllable ending with a? Lol. I understand the OCD.
  • My two themes are 1. MN starts with the second letter of FN and 2. one is a variant of a family name but not exactly the same (ex. Loraine became Lorraine, Orien became Orion). I also avoid names that start or end with the same letter or sound from sibling to sibling because personally I think it's tacky and overdone.

Lol wow I wasn't aware that my naming was tacky.,. But thanks..
Anyways.. Thanks for the suggestions but I'm set on my name. I was just wondering if others were the same way.

I don't have any naming OCD but I think it's kind of understandable. My DH has actual OCD so I'm hoping that doesn't translate to names. Fingers crossed? Anyway, Alexa is a lovely name! I don't really care for Naveen...it's just not my style. Behindthename.com is showing it as a male Indian name and I am firm believer in feminine names for girls. If you like Hindu names that start with N, maybe consider Namrah (tigress), Naseen (cool breeze), Nazima (song), or Neemali (peacock). Double check those names if you like them. I only used one website...didn't cross check. GL!

Oh? No I didn't know it was a boys name.. Lol it sounded girly.. I like neveah.. But it's so common.. And I heard naveen and thought "oh cute" but now I'm not so sure... Not against Hinduism or anything... Just.. Not my religion so It may be a little weird to name my child after a religion I don't follow.. (Well not after but you get what I'm saying) plus my big issue is I'm looking for a name that's girly and elegant since Alexa is a strong name... (Lexi for short which is girly)
Grace is my fall back... But I don't want to settle and I feel that if I do name her Alexa grace I won't be happy with it. I just can't find any names that I like for her.
  • Okay I totally get that! I was just playing off of Naseem! I don't love Navaeh. You're right, it is very common. How about:

  • Alexa Noreen.  Had a high school bud named Noreen; such a pretty name, and I've yet to meet another Noreen.

  • g8trkimg8trkim member
Totally feel you! DS is Grant Irving and DD is Brynn Lula. I'm pretty set on any other kids being one syllable FN and two syllable MN (middle being a family name).

    Btw I like Naveen.

A lot of those names I have played with as well! Our last name starts with an s.. So of course I can't do middle names with s... ASS initials.. And my middle name is Leigh! Lol it's not very commonly spelt that way. Elise and Renee have been tossed around as well.. Just with my girls I knew it was just perfect when I found there names.. Nothing seems to be "perfect" it's so frustrating and now I have name anxiety! Lol.

Noreen is def interesting.. But I have a great aunt named Noreen.. Lol.

I like the middle name lula. It's cute. Don't hear it much either.
  • I really like Alexa Naveen. In my name book it is a unisex name and the male version is actually spelled Navin. And it's meaning is new. Please please please don't go with Navaeh, I know about 8 kids with that name.

Lula was my great grandmother's name. She hated it and went by her MN Dell. I love it though. We would have used it for a FN but our dog is Lucy and we call her Lulu. Thought it would get a little weird.

  • LOL! You for sure don't want the initials ASS. I totally agree there.

Our last name also starts with S. There are SO many things you could do with initials. DH and I always joke that if we had twins, we'd make their initials KIS and ASS. Obviously we wouldn't, but it's funny to talk about. Other options: PIS, GAS, IRS, SOS, MES

  • Oh ladies, I feel your pain. We thought we had finally settled on a girls name when I realized her monogram would be HAM. Since both hubs and I were kinda chubsters in our younger days, I realized this could be a recipe for disaster...especially if I send my baby to school with a monogrammed backpack or something. At least we're all thinking about it, right?

    Ha ha! HAM!
Yes. Good for you for considering the initials. I was in love with a name and my husband pointed out the initials would be EVL. Which looks way too much like EVIL. Now he likes the name solely based on that. Or maybe be it's reverse psychology to get me to pick his name choice .....
  • I am totally with you on the OCD. We all have two syllable names and the only girl name we can agree on is three. It took everything I had to get over the two syllable thing. I also refuse to use the same first letter or last letter of the FN on more then one child (if I could have done all the same first or last initial I would have, but I can't just have 2-3 of them start wth T and have a random A, that's just crazy!) I'm not so OCD about middle names but totally understand. When I first heard Naveen I thought of it as a boy name. But it doesn't sound bad. I would assume you were Indian though. What about Alexa Christine? Has a similar sound, 14 letters.
  • I love Alexa Christine! Good job @balderasmama

  • Definitely with you on the OCD though I'm determined to do something different next time around. We have a Lucy and a Zoey and they both have the middle name Alexandra because we couldn't find another long middle name we liked as much.

I thought about reusing my first's middle name. (Hollis) what kind of feed back did you get from using the same middle name?

I think it's fine. Our friend's girls are Heidi Marie and Annaliese Marie. It's a family name. I never thought twice about it.

  • I know a couple sibling sets who share middle names. They're almost all family names. No big deal, especially since it has meaning.

Mostly positive. Some of our close family joked about second child syndrome but it turns out we're not the only ones in the family to do it. We kind if feel like it's special to them share a name.
