Sitting up the easy way....

I just wanted to share some helpful info with you ladies

I know as we get bigger it get harder to sit up. This is my second baby and with my first I noticed my belly looking a little egg shaped when I tried to sit up.
I ended up speaking to a boot camp instructor who said most mommy tummy is caused by separated ab muscles also known as Diastasis Recti.

She told me to not try to sit up normally anymore and to avoid engaging those muscles as it really causes them to pull apart now that they are stretched over baby,it will leave a hole there after you deliver.

She told me to sit up a "sexy senior"
You can practice this when you lay down at night to go to bed first sit on the bed and then lay down towards your shoulder not right on your back. This way up are using your sides to do the work and your arms and hands can help too.
And when you sit up roll from your back on to your side and then gently sit up side ways. Using your hands. You can use this anytime you need to sit up not just at bed time. I do it all the time now out of habit.

I know this isn't the only solution to keep it from happening if you have more to add I would love to hear it.

  • Great to know! I have been wondering what that bump was. ;-)
  • And... That diastasis recti looks even more "interesting" after you've had baby... Mine is like a crater..

  • Wait, there are still people that can use their ab muscles to sit up normally?? I thought the whole side rolling sit up thing just happened naturally. :P Fortunately I never ended up with a lasting diastasis recti with my daughter but did manage to permanently herniate my belly button...

Good to know. I was wondering what that ball was on the tip of my bells was everytime I got up.
  • Thank you so much. I was thinking about posting looking for suggestions. This should help!
  • I literally never would've known about this without your post. Thank you so much! I'm 29 weeks as of last Thursday. Hope I'm not too late!
