Car Crash (fender bender)

I was in a small car crash earlier this evening. It was a rear end crash at low almost no speed. I didn't have the ambulance called because it was low impact and I didn't feel hurt at all.

I'm having some cramping in my abdomen now though and trying to decide whether to call the dr about it. It could be psychosomatic because I'm worried. Also the only day my dr has an ultrasound tech in the office is Wednesday so if there is an issue, I'd need to go in tomorrow. . .

Any advice? Would you call now or wait until morning?

I would call now, that way at the very least they can leave notice in the office first thing in the morning. They also may want you to be seen somewhere sooner though. Hope all is well and you're feeling better soon.

If you're worried give them a call, but I'm not sure a fender bender would do anything. We hit a guardrail a few weeks ago and my doctor said not to worry about it. I would drink some extra fluid and lie down for a little bit and see if the cramping subsides. Hope you start feeling better.

I think you shouldn't hesitate to call if you are worried. Some doctors might want you to be seen right away and may send you to the emergency room though so maybe prepare for that. I hope everything is okay!!

I got into a fender bender at 28 weeks and had a doctor's appointment that day by coincedence. I was perfectly fine and so was baby. Most cramps are normal, unless they're intense or paired with bleeding I wouldn't stress about it. Call you doctor in the morning and double check, but at a low speed and with no other symptoms I definitely wouldn't worry.
  • I'd call and at least see if they want you to be seen. I would guess from what you described there is no reason to worry, but it couldn't hurt to have it on record.
Let us know what they say.
  • I totaled my car at 16 weeks last pregnancy and all was well. If you are cramping and concerned definitely put in a call. Try drinking some water and putting your feet up. I hope you feel better soon!!!
  • I agree with all PPs. Just wanted to chime in and say that I'm sorry you were in a fender bender! I'm glad that it was a gentle one and that you're okay!

Glad it was a small accident and you, and everyone else involved is ok. I would call my doctor just to give him or her the heads up of what happened and how you're now feeling and let them make the call. Hope all is well. ;)

I was side swiped when pregnant with DS1 at 11 weeks. I kept feeling cramping and just "weird" so I called dr. He told me no worries and some things to look for. The cramps immediately went away and I felt fine. Sometimes you just need some reassurance:) glad you're ok!
  • Sounds scary! Glad you're okay - keep us posted!

  • I didn't read the other responses but you should definitely call and try to get in. Firstly for peace of mind and secondly for insurance purposes. I guess things might be different in the U.S. But they keep track of things like that here and if anything medically were to be wrong and you waited a few days to be seen then insurance may not cover any associated costs.

  • I'd give them a call. I had a concern come up on a Sunday, and I called the office that afternoon. A doctor on the team returned my call within 20 minutes. Whether they tell you there's nothing to worry about, or they tell you to come in first thing tomorrow, you'll be that much closer to some answers, and hopefully, peace of mind.
  • Glad you were ok. I would definitely want to check on my baby whether I wss having cramps or not. Give them a call.

  • I was in a similar situation a little over 2 weeks ago and didn't call the Dr. only because I was seeing them 3 days later for my 12 week appointment.  I did tell them about the accident at my appointment and my Dr. said in the future they would always like to be notified.   Cramping or no cramping.  So I would suggest calling them.

If it helps... a lady ran a red light going at a pretty good rate and rear ended me, ambulance was called (even though I didn't ask for it) all they did was check my blood pressure bc at almost 12 weeks what else were they going to do?! But my little nugget was and is just fine.  :)
  • Glad the accident wasn't too bad and you're OK. I imagine the baby is fine as I've known some ladies who were involved in some serious accidents and luckily their LOs were OK, but when in doubt call the doctor. Until then try to get some rest and liquids as others have said. The baby is quite padded at this stage so I am sure everything is fine. All the best!
  • So glad you are okay. Let us know how it goes Friday!
  • Glad you're ok. I wouldn't worry too much. Just take it easier today if you can.
  • Glad to hear that you are ok-I imagine that this must have been a pretty scary situation! Let us know how things go on Friday-although I am sure all is good!!

  • I am a paralegal for a personal injury law firm in Florida. I'm very glad to hear that your physician believes baby is fine. Baby aside, regarding you specifically, While many people believe a low impact collision will not cause harm, it can. If you are still cramping or having any pain whatsoever, whether it be your neck or back, you should go to the hospital. I am not sure what state you live in as all states are different when it comes to medical coverage under auto insurance, however, if you do not seek treatment within the first few days, you risk limiting your coverage for medical treatment.

Unless she plans to sue she is limited by the PIP anyway. She wouldn't be turned away for treatment it would just be on her personal insurance.
  • The cramps got worse today and I ended up at the ER. They have continued to get worse, but I was told there was nothing they could do and nothing they could tell me for sure. They suggested I relax, drink plenty of liquids and return if I begin spotting or bleeding.

DD and I have been curled up watching Tinkerbelle and the Legend of the NeverBeast.

There is still a good heartbeat. It was 152 at the ER. I've got hope this is just a thing and it will pass.

Most likely it will especially if you are sore and stiffened up plus upset. Cramping isn't good but the fact that baby is so cushioned, it was low speed, you aren't bleeding and heartbeat was good are all very positive things. Your baby is probably oblivious hanging out all comfy while your body complains and whines about what happened to it.
