Prenatal vitamins (or lack thereof)

I've been HORRIBLE about taking my vitamins!

I took them religiously for months prior to getting pregnant and through my first 8 weeks. Once my MS hit, they got to be soooo hard to take and keep down. I think between 8 and 12 weeks I was lucky to get them in twice a week. Now at 16 weeks I just keep forgetting.

I'm still experiencing MS but it's maybe 1-2 times a day instead of several.

I'm hoping my baby is still strong and healthy. So far all my check ups are good and he's a healthy size and has a strong heart beat. I also know he doesn't have a genetic defect from the testing we did. But I still worry.

I put them by my bed so I can take them at night but it's not totally helping.

Thoughts, encouragement or advice?

I've seen threads where other people who can't keep the prenatals down are told by their doctors to just make sure to take a folic acid supplement and try the flintstones vitamins. I would think that anything you can keep down is better than nothing!

I forget mine all the time too! Its for the same reason as you they were hard to keep down in the beginning months. Just keep taking them when you remember. I have mine by my bed, but I still forget sometimes. Im supposed to take two. So I have been taking one in the morning and one at night. That way if I forget one of them I at least have some in me.

  • I keep mine on the bathroom counter next to my toothbrush and take them every night before I go to bed. I was lucky enough not to really have any morning sickness but friends told me taking them at night it easier. I also take the gummy vitamins, I'm not the best with pills! You could also try setting a reminder on your phone everyday! Good luck!
  • I have hyperemesis and am lucky to even keep my zofran down. I took them before my sickness set in, but I've probably taken 10 since then. I worry about it too.
  • Set a reminder on your phone?

They made my MS so much worse so I just stopped taking them. I've been trying to start back up but I almost have a reflexive distaste for then now. My doc was ok with it, she said to take the folic acid and eat breakfast cereal a couple times a week. They spray that stuff with loads of vitamins.
  • That makes me feel better! I've been eating cereal about 3x a day since week 10! It's one of the few foods I can regularly eat with my nausea and vomiting.

I started taking the gummy chewable ones(I get them at target but I'm sure they have them everywhere.) I've been able to keep them down during both of my pregnancies even during my morning sickness(which is still hanging around.) I also kind of look forward to them because it seems like candy! My doctor says they're perfectly fine and she's started recommending them to other patients that had trouble keeping other ones down.
  • I have tried a few different kinds and the only ones that don't bother me are prescription prenate minis, it's one small pill plus the dha.
  • Try to enhance your diet with more vitamin rich foods. And folic acid supplements !!
  • @AmyB421, me too! Just like a mini dessert. :D My OB recommended that I switch to the gummies after having issues keeping down the standard capsule vitamins. She suggested Vitafusion and I love them. I also take them after dinner and found that has helped, both in keeping them down and remembering to take them. Also have a reminder alarm set on my phone, just in case. Pregnancy brain has been awful lately.
