Anyone else have Hyperemesis and or migraines??? I have both really bad and need to get them under control. What have you done that has worked for you I'll try anything. I'm 12 weeks today...
I am suffering with HG. I can't keep much of anything down and have lost a lot of weight. I am also 12 weeks. I am taking diclectin, it doesn't help much but I do notice a difference if I accidently miss a dosage (more dry heaving after vomiting). I try to mostly eat things that have stayed down in past weeks and completely avoid things that I have thrown up more than one time. I find I keep melon down best. I never keep water down, so I drink other fluids that I don't have a history of vomiting up often.
A few things that people I know say work for them: seabands, ginger, milk thistle, dandelion root, eating lemons, drinking lemon water.
I haven't been diagnosed with HG yet, but I have a feeling they will at my next appointment (lost 10 lbs between my last visit to now and over 15% of my body weight). Nothing has worked so far. I'm pretty desperate. I'm a stay at home of two toddlers (2 & 4) and potty training with severe morning sickness is no joke! I'm 13w1d so I'm praying for some relief soon! Hoping for relief for you others as well!
I'm on diclegis, reglan, zofran, phenerghan, and now compazine. The ONLY one of those that has helped even a bit has been the zofran...but one of the side effects is headaches. Being dehydrated is probably making your migraines worse, is a lose lose battle here! If you don't want to try any of those meds or your ob isn't prescribing them you can take a combo of vitamin b6 supplements and unasom, that's what diclegis is, it's just put into one pill. Good luck friend. I couldn't imagine migraines on top of this.
I've been diagnosed with HG, been in hospital three times and bed rest the rest of the time. I can honestly say nothing makes it better. We all know we've tried everything. I found the least painful and bitter thing to throw up was ice lollys and I got to a point where I was so fearful of being sick that I only ate ice or ice lollys so that the inevitable throwing up wasn't painful or horrid. Then (I'm going to add light at the end of your tunnel) at 15 weeks I woke up and felt a little better. I didn't want to eat particularly but the smell of an innocent fruit smoothie didn't make me want to hurl. So I drank one, and another and a few more. I only threw up twice that day. The next day I had energy to get out of bed as well and I even ate a yoghurt and a pot noodle. And didn't throw up except first thing in the morning. And the next day (yesterday) I felt like a human all day until about 6.30 pm, I think I over did goingb out and about and started to feel sick again so I slept from then until now. But today I woke up feeling relatively normal again. So I'm hoping this is the end. I still have nausea but not he gut wrenching constant tiring nausea of HG. I would describe what I feel now as morning sickness triggered by fatty greasy smells and being hungry! So there is light. Hope it will reach you soon. And hope it will stay with me! X
So I get the extreme migraines, both pregnant and not, but they tend to be worse during pregnancy. I try hot pads on my neck, cool rag on forehead, sometimes icy hot on neck if pain is stemming from there. My doc has me on vicodin and percoset (only taken with migraines), but those don't do anything but make me nauseous. Now I'm on dilaudid and it helps some.
If the migraines are so bad that nothing helps, I have to go into the hospital (ER this early on or L&D as I move into third tri) for a shot of pain medicine.
Anyway, all that to say, there's not a lot they can do for migraines during pregnancy besides pain medicine. Imitrex helps most for my migraines, but I can't take them during pregnancy. I would call your OBGYN to see what they suggest, but there's just not much that can be done. I'm sorry
Thanks everyone! I'm on diclegis, zofran, and regalin for nausea but still throwing up a lot. I had an IV in for awhile here at home but complications arose and had to get it out. I'm also on a medication ( forgot what it's called) but it's usually given to people with high blood pressure. I don't have high blood pressure but it's supposed to help with migraines. So far no luck! I have to go into the ER regularly to control pain because the nausea is so bad I can't keep anything down to help with pain. I throw up water and Gatorade so I'm worried about dehydration but not sure what to do... I've lost 15 pounds already and so worried about my baby not getting enough nutrients, just hoping he or she ends up healthy
I've been having consistent migraines for a couple of weeks (I'm 14 weeks). It's awful. I finally called my midwife and she gave me permission to take ibuprofen, makes me nervous but I took it and 30 minutes later I had complete relief! I just pray it doesn't harm the baby. I'm on my honeymoon and needed some form of relief so we can enjoy our time together.
I've said this on a couple of other posts about headaches, and I know it might sound crazy but acupuncture really helps! I've had really bad migraines ever since I was a kid. I can't be on my regular medication for them while pregnant and they were really really bad during my last pregnancy. My OB recommended acupuncture and it helps so much! In fact, after my son was born I never went back on my medication and I have just continued with acupuncture. Luckily my insurance covers it. It also helps some with the nausea, though not completely. Good luck and I hope you get relief soon!
