Buying a used stroller?

I REALLY want an UppaBaby Vista -Jake stroller but I can't justify spending $800+. How do you ladies feel about buying a used uppababy stroller on Craigslist, consignment store, etc?

If it is in good working condition, clean and doesn't smell like smoke or pets I would absolutely buy a used stroller.  Car seats, or a crib mattress no..

Also make sure it does not have any recalls.
  • I have done it, and am glad I did.  Saved me a lot of money and works great

  • I bought my snap'n'go stroller used. I see nothing wrong with buying a used stroller, just make sure to inspect if carefully before you hand over any cash.

If you're buying at a consignment shop like Once Upon a Child, I wouldn't be worried at all. They inspect everything before they buy, and won't take something too badly worn to resell.

  • As long as its in good condition I would go for it!!
  • We bought a Gracco stroller at a yard sale for $25 this weekend. It is in great condition, and I don't see us using a stroller that often. Just not something I want to pay $300+ for.

I'm buying a used travel system tomorrow for 80. As long as I know it's in good condition, no missing parts or broken, then I'm fine with it. And I'm saving 250! :)
  • I'm totally buying a used stroller. I recently looked at our finances and quickly got over my need to have new things. :)
  • A lot of smaller baby boutiques will often sell the floor sample of an item once they no longer carry that item, for a deeply discounted price. If you're looking for saving on higher end baby items that might be something to keep an eye on. USA Baby does that here, but I don't know if there's one in your area.
  • I bought a used Bugaboo off Craigslist. The $200 price tag was much better than a brand new one. As long as it's clean (some even come apart so you can run it through a washer) and doesn't smell I'd go for it. Make sure you test out folding it and push it around a little bit. Just be smart and check all the moving pieces.
  • I've never heard of a warning about buying used strollers. I think, like anything you buy used, you'd just want something that works and that isn't infested with something ;)

DH and I just bought a double (Sit 'n' Stand) at a garage sale for $30 and our neighbors maybe used it 3-4 times. I think you'll find there are tons of people out there who buy too much or the wrong thing when their kids are born and then they sell the items in great, almost new condition. I think the question is, why wouldn't you buy a used stroller? :)

I'm all for saving and buying used items that are still in good working condition. I would honestly try your local consignment shops first as Craigslist kinda sketches me out now (anyone hear of the pregnant woman who met a lady at her house who was selling clothes and said seller cut the baby from her belly? Yeah, sick and terrifying) ... If you do purchase anything from Craigslist, take your hubby/BF/dad/etc...and/or a gun if you're comfortable.
