placenta previa bleh!

Had my 19 week scan today and found out baby is a girl!! Sooooo excited but then the Dr told me I had placenta previa. I want to fix it! Ugh I'm so bummed. Anyone know how to fix me?!

Re: placenta previa bleh!

  • I had it during the first half of my second pregnancy. It moved! A lot of early previas (can't remember the numbers off hand) move up as the uterus grows. Have faith! Congrats on baby girl!

  • Does this mean the placenta is partially detached from the uterine wall? What did your doctor recommend?
  • Mine was still present at 17 weeks. It had moved high enough to not be an issue by a follow up scan at 24 weeks!

No. A previa is a placenta that partially or completely blocks the cervix. An abruption is when it detaches, completely or partially, from the uterine wall.
  • Thanks!! I hope it moves on its own. All my Dr said was pelvic rest.. no sex or anything that puts any impact on my pelvis. Do you know if I can travel? I forgot to ask my dr.
  • I think that would depend on preference, what type of travel, and where to.
  • Oh ok sorry I get those mixed up. So there's a chance it could move on it's own? What are the risks if it does not move?
  • A lot of them move (I'm too lazy to get up and look the numbers up!). There are risks of bleeding and you can't deliver vaginally. Pelvis rest is a must and that includes vag exams. A lot of MDs choose to section previas at 37 weeks to avoid complications. But, most move!
  • I have it too but my restrictions are pretty strict. No grocery shopping, no vacuuming, no stairs, no sex, no lifting things heavier than two pounds, no exercise for exercise sake. My doctor said it should move by week 28. I found out on week 14. I'm at week 17 now. Feels like its going to be a long time. but she did say that most move. I think the worst case scenario would be if it doesn't move a c-section. good luck and take it easy :-)
  • I just found out yesterday I also have this :( I was told pelvic rest and that most of the time the problem corrects itself . It's just a major bummer to find our something is wrong wether it is big or small.
  • I have complete previa (just went today actually and they confirmed it hasn't moved) and my doctor says it looks like one that will not move. But he said you never know. I've had bleeding early on but not lately. The worst part is not having sex! I can't believe I have to go potentially another 5 months without sex! If it doesn't move it just means c-section, not the worst.
  • Thanks everyone! I feel better now.. I was so upset all day. Read every page on it! I haven't had any complications or bleeding at all so I was a bit taken back.
