Separation Anxiety

My LO cries whenever someone besides her father or myself holds her. She never use to do this, now she cries with everyone including her grandmothers. I'm sure this will be a problem when I start her in daycare, how can I get her used to people?

Re: Separation Anxiety

  • Mine does this sometimes.  Especially if he's just woken up from a nap.  It's a cry like no other.  First his lower lip gets all pouty, then it's a wide open mouth wail!  It's actually super adorable.
He does great at day care though.  He knows his daycare person well and never ever cries with her.  She's like his second mom.  Always a smile.
If the person holding him is confident then he will usually calm down after a bit.  My sister in law, for example, just got this treatment last weekend.  She bounced him and walked him around the house so he was distracted and looking at things, and he eventually decided she was ok.  My father in law usually panics and hands him back over, which means he gets pouty lip crying all the time!
For me, I just try and not rush in and soothe him.  I just give him a smile and tell him everything is ok.  If he sees me relax, I think he is more likely to relax.  "Mom doesn't think this is a big deal.  Must not be a big deal."
