Nosebleeds?

I had my first nosebleed in probably 10 years, this morning. What's weird, though, is I coughed up a clot. I've never done that before. I know it's normal to maybe spit up blood because your nose, mouth, and throat are all connected. But I thought it was super strange. I have an ultrasound appointment tomorrow at my doctor's practice. I'm going to bring it to her attention. But has that happened to anyone else?

I had one when I was throwing up last week, my first one ever. I coughed up a little blood but I think it was because I'd tilted my head back and it ran down. :(
  • I would always have them before during certain seasons....man they are way worse now!  I had a terrible one over the weekend that lasted forever!  And they always happen on just one side of my nose.

  • Thank you. I felt like something was wrong. I did read that the extra estrogen causes vessels to expand and puts pressure on them. Hopefully, it doesn't happen again. It made me late for work. LOL.

It's normal to have a blood clot because if its a fairy heavy bleed, the way you stop the flow is by clots-- I had this happen a few years ago and freaked but my Doctor of a father in law reassured me it's fine. Mine usually end up getting blown out a few hours after but it's nothing to worry about. I think you may have coughed it up because, like you said, they are connected. It just worked its way out through the mouth rather the nose.
I did hear that nosebleeds are common during the second trimester due to an increased about of blood and all the hormones, just like gums can bleed. I'd still talk with your OB and make sure if you are worried but I had two yesterday and I'm not concerned about them. Just another part of being pregnant.
