Work discrimination need help

so I work in aged care as pca I'm wondering what our weight limits are when we are pregnant I hurt my bAck few weeks ago and took in a certificate as they are rostering me on in the heaviest area that's the busiest and I understand comes with the job but when first told work I was pregnant they were putting me in there every day I think there trying to get me to leave but they can easily roster me on in areas that aren't so heavy anyways I got a certificate stating I can't lift over or move weight over 10kg right due to my muscles relaxing I got hurt easy.I asked my boss why I was rostered In this area while I have this certificate stating this she apparently lost it and has never seen it lucky I photocopied it she also stated I'm not lifting so I should be working in there no matter what but when other people hurt themselves they get put in other areas blah blah blah apparently being pregnant isn't a good enough excuse so now I have to go higher up due to the fact there treating me like shit but I'm wondering what our weight limit is when we're pregnant when moving large or heavy things and due to fact I have a certificate they should be following theses rules but all of the sudden she's lost it what a load of shit to be honest. I'm so angry sick of being treated this way but refuse to quit yet because I'm still capable of working. I want them to get on the floor and tell me they are moving or lifting people over 10kg and do it for a day while pregnant it litterly kills me by end of the day and it's not fair. What annoys me the most I worked my ass off for this company and never have I ever complained about where I am place or anything and yet I physically can't work in that area they treat me like shit it's honestly not fair. Mind you I'm still working in area where it's quite hard and haven't complained when I should be getting placed down In low care where residents help you ect

Re: Work discrimination need help

  • You are asking for a reasonable accommodation to perform the essential functions of your job. They can either meet your request or try to argue that it isn't reasonable (tough sell if they place other temporary disabled people in other areas). You should be in touch with your HR department and explain to them the entire situation. I am have my degree and certification in HR and have been practicing over 5 years. What you are asking seems reasonable and you should not perform any activity that may put you or your baby at risk. You can also draft your own document and ask your employer to sign it saying that they are willing to provide the accommodation until your due date.

  • Alright awesome thank you I just didn't know whether what I was asking was wrong or not and every women I work with totally agree that they are doing the wrong thing but half them probably complaining behind my back its dog eat dog world in aged care industry and its bad I'm gonna go to my ohs lady myself my in charge said she's going to take my certificate to her and discuss my what my options are which will be suck it up or leave but I'm gonna go to her myself and if she doesn't fix it which I believe she will she's lovely i think if she knew what they were doing they'd be in big trouble then hopefully things change if not I'll have to go to fair work but thank you @Imetter88
