Yeast infection medication!!

My doctor called me in an RX of Diflucan. But everything I've read said its risky to take during pregnancy and to stick to vaginal creams instead of oral medications. I need advice please!

Re: Yeast infection medication!!

  • I had a yeast infection a few weeks ago. I had the cream and the applicatior. My midwife told me not to use the applicator and just put the cream on myself. I didn't put it up far at all and infection cleared up super quick :)

I had a yeast infection 2 weeks ago (at 12 weeks) and my OB told me to use the over the counter Miconazole. I used the applicator and the meds for about 6 days and it was all cleared up. I had no problems at all. The baby will not be effected. They want you to use the 7 day so the meds wont be so strong. Don't get the 1 day or 3 day kit.
  • My doctor told me to use Monistat as opposed to a pill. He said 3-day treatment was fine, though.

That's what my OB suggested as well. Got some today and hoping it clears it quickly.

From the moment I held you in my arms, I knew it was meant to be.

    I adore her smile,
    I cherish her hugs,
    I admire her heart.
    But most of all,
I love that she is my daughter.

  • Just eat yogourt. My doctor told me the over the counter creams were safe but they don't work for me. I just eat yogourt and it clears things up.
  • I had it with my daughter and my doctor said to take monitstat. Went away in a few hours
  • I had one around 7 weeks. I used the 3 day monistat suppositories. Just don't insert the applicator all the way (only 1/2 way). Cleared up and haven't had an issue since.
  • I actually treated myself for a yeast infection when I was about 4 weeks pregnant with Monistat 3 day, I mentioned it to my DR at my 6 week appointment and he said there wasn't anything to worry about.
  • Acidophilus pills can be taken to to help prevent, that is what is found in yogurt
  • Hi! Please Do not take the Diflucan. It's category D. Miconazole 7 day cream cleared my yeast infection up very nicely as well!

My Dr called me in one as well but told me if I could stand it to.wait until I was about 15 weeks to take it. Maybe ask your Dr why the oral was recommended over the cream?
  • I went to my midwife today (I'm 13w5d), she said I have a yeast infection and prescribed me a vaginal cream to use with an applicator called Terconazole. I asked and she said it would be safe to use and would not affect the baby, but I read online that it's a category c drug, meaning risk cannot be ruled out. Any experience using that cream? Just seeking guidance and support. I just wouldn't want to do anything that could have a harmful effect on my baby.
  • I had a yeast infection and the monistat 7 day made me bleed terribly. I have a sensitve cervix. They had me take the pill as soon as I was 13 weeks. I'm now 16 weeks and everything seems fine.
