Pacifier

when I picked up LO at daycare on Friday I was told that she and only one other baby out of the 8 in her class use their pacifier still... She only uses it at nap time and bedtime. They kind of made me feel like she was getting too old for it.

So I'm curious, how many of your babies are still using them???

Re: Pacifier

  • LO never took to one... I tried so many brands! People made me feel like I should have tried harder, but now we don't have to take it away and I have no regrets.

I say if it still works for you, keep on! Or you could always have them try to put her down without it, but have it on hand as a back up.

Same... And agree (sorry I'm lazy)... My niece took a paci until 2 all day nap and night.... My sis started taking it away at 2 and now at 2.5 she doesn't need it ever.
  • I put SS, but actually the same as those above! I wanted LO to take a pacifier so badly, but he only did for like three weeks. :( if he had, I'd be all over using it for naps and bedtime!

At our daycare, my friend mentioned that a lot of the older babies (18 months plus) go back to using them; they're taken away for the 12 -18 month class, but after they things get more laxed.  Her baby still uses hers at 2 years.  Our J has never used one.
  • Just when sleeping in her crib. She hasn't used it while awake for months. I'm hoping to ditch it in the next few months

  • I did SS because we just stopped giving it to her over the last week, it was kind of an experiment and she really didn't seem to care...so we are totally rolling with it.

  • Neither of my kids would take them. My first was colicky and I would have given my right arm for her to take one. Second one I only tried a few times since he seemed fine and I wasn't used to using one. When my first found her fingers at about 4 months I was thrilled because it helped her self soothe. At three and still going strong on the fingers, I'm not so thrilled.

DD1 never wanted one. And DD2 we took hers away a couple months ago because we noticed that she wasn't interested in it anymore unless someone else put it in her mouth because they thought she needed it. We also just took the bottle away on her birthday so we will see how this goes for the next couple weeks. If she still wanted her pacifier and it would help her sleep in her bed instead of mine I would hop right on using it. But that never worked. I just want my bed back. Lol. :(

SS LO used one for maybe the first month until she found her fingers. She has been a finger sucker ever since.
  • Thanks for the responses ladies! I don't feel like 12 months is too old for her to still use it and I don't really like that I was made to feel that way! We just dropped the bottles and she is still adjusting to only getting sippy cups so I think I'll wait a little while longer until I attack the pacifier. Just for kicks on Saturday I tried to put her down for a nap without it. No chance. I fear it will be terrible breaking her from it.

12 months is definitely not too old for a pacifier! I can't believe they made you feel badly about it. Ignore them and do what feels right.
