still struggling with food

I am 17 weeks and still having pretty strong food aversions and issues with food. It is getting very discouraging because I am trying hard to eat healthy and avoid going out to eat. I was overweight pre pregnancy and my doctor is already on me because I have gained 6 lbs. Tonight I tried eating cottage cheese but couldn't stomach it, then tried to make some eggs and couldn't even handle trying to crack them into the pan. I cannot eat meat we have cooked at home. I only eat a good amount when we go out to restaurants. Any suggestions? I really would appreciate any advice at this point. I am starting to worry this will last the whole pregnancy or even longer.

Re: still struggling with food

  • I am having the same issue, but not so extreme.

Have you tried smoothies with protein? high fiber/protein bread with peanut butter or cheese also works.

Good luck- I'm with ya sister.

  • I've been having issues with meat, too, and second the protein smoothies. Yogurt is good, especially with fresh fruit. Even now that my appetite has come roaring back at 15 weeks, I still have some serious aversions. There was some good ideas on a previous post about vegetarian eating (https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/comment/86864551#Comment_86864551)

I have found that cold foods are somewhat easier. Hummus and veggies or whole wheat pita bread, or apples and peanut butter usually were ok. Also, string cheese, fresh fruit and salads with nuts. Nuts, beans and dairy have been my primary source of protein, with the occasional piece of steak or stir fry with chicken (as long as I'm not around when it's cooked). Pork is right out. :-&

On really bad days, I would just have a glass of milk and a Cliff bar. They are a little high in sugar and calories, but the bars I got had 10 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber.

Hope that helps. May we all overcome this soon.
    :)
  • Ohhhh hummus sounds good. I am having such a hard time. Barely anything sounds good. And then choking food down is really rough. I have noticed that nuts, beans and dairy have been easier to get down than meat. I've had a few days here and there with a good appetite, but I would really love to eat again.
