Nosefrida tips and tricks?

so, LO and I have been up for most of the last two nights due to congestion/drainage. I broke down today and got a nosefrida. I feel like I'm definitely getting more out than I did with the bulb syringe, but LO fights it just as hard, which makes it really tough to be thorough. Any tips and tricks for keeping those arms at bay while you suck out the snot?

Re: Nosefrida tips and tricks?

  • I let my little guy play with it. We kind of take turns which distracts him a little bit. I have to say that he let me do it without protest more so when it was new, now the novelty has worn off. Good luck!!

  • It's a constant battle here too. I have to pin him down to use it and he screams....LOUD :((
  • Are you spraying with saline first to loosen it up? It doesn't matter how it gets done with my LO. She screams longer and louder than my first two did.

  • I am using saline first...but the screaming! Yikes. If nothing else, I'm glad I'm not alone. He actually slept last night, so that's a definite win, even if getting that snot out is slightly traumatic for all of us.
  • I usually hold both hands in one of my hands and pin them down to her chest. Then I have to lean over and hold her head in position with my upper arm to do the sucking. Sounds like torture, and she sure thinks it is, but it gets the job done. ;)
  • We gave up the Nosefrida long ago due to the fact that it always seemed to get me horribly sick.
  • Gross I know but my LO always likes to look at the snot after. "Ohhhh! Look! Boogers!"
  • We love the nose frida, but it's a 2 man job at our house. DH pins him down and I do the suckin. DH sings silly songs to him,and that helps sometimes.
  • Same in our house my husband usually pins her down while I suck.....it is so horrible!
