October 2015 Moms

Bacterial vaginosis

So just left my doctors appointment and found out I have bacterial vaginosis which is from what I understand over production of bacteria. I did get a prescription for it and I will also start progesterone shots next week.

I'm really scared and could use some support and maybe even advice from moms that went through this during pregnancy.

I had a miscarriage in October last year and it's really scary to think of it happening again. I'm just so depressed right now.

Re: Bacterial vaginosis

  • Just follow the advice for treating it from your provider. BV can cause problems if it is left untreated but it is common and can be treated.

What is the progesterone for? Did you have a late loss or low levels at this point? Generally BV and progesterone usage don't go hand in hand.
  • @stephn310 with my last pregnancy I went in to pre term labor at 20 weeks, they think my cervix was too thin and opened early which caused me to go into labor.

  • Do you have to do weekly injections? I went into preterm labor with a funneling cervix at 23 weeks with my first pregnancy. I amazingly ended up carrying her to 37 weeks and had no problems with my second pregnancy. Wishing you strong a strong cervix!
  • Yes I start next week with the weekly injections. & thank you! You and your little one have a great day :)
  • I had bv at the beginning of my pregnancy and took medicine for it and everything is going very well still! My doctor said it's pretty common.
  • Like PP have mention BV can be harmful if left untreated ! Follow your OBs instuctions ! And best of luck !
  • I just had to deal with this, i had to use metro gel for 5 days everything was perfectly fine with no harm to baby at all if left untreated it can cause premature labor so it is best to treat it and proceed to take precautions to avoid getting it again if possible. if you are still worried you can speak to the doctor or nurse and the pharmacist
  • Thanks ladies, I guess I just got really scared because my doctor did mention it could cause miscarriage, got my prescription and took a nap so I do feel less anxious about it.

I had BV with my first pregnancy and opted for the Clindamycin (pill form) instead of the Metrogel. Two weeks after I finished the antibiotic I developed C. Diff (diarrhea/ colitis) and had to be on Penicillin for 1 month to get rid of it. If you are taking antibiotics (pill form), make sure you are getting probiotics from yogurt, Kombucha, or any pill/ powder form that a pharmacist would recommend. (I have a medical background, registered nurse)
  • @bingj I'm using metro gel for 5 days
