Trouble finding heartbeat UPDATE

I had an appointment with my midwife today at 15w5d and she had trouble finding the heartbeat with a Doppler. She scheduled a scan tomorrow-has this happened to anyone before?

From what I can tell from the Internet research I've been doing it can still be early to hear it on a Doppler. I've had one scan where we saw the heartbeat and one other time at 10 weeks where another midwife found the heartbeat with a Doppler-but it took a while to find it. I'm a little confused to say the least.

Good thoughts appreciated!

Update: they still didn't find a heartbeat at the US-so now we move onto other steps. I'm waiting for the OB to get back to me now.

Best of luck Oct. Moms!

Re: Trouble finding heartbeat UPDATE

  • I am 16 weeks and including today, they have yet to find my babys heart rate with the doppler. The only reason the doctor, and myself are not worried is because i had two good ultrasounds already (saw heart pumping, baby looked good and heathy) and i feel baby move about 3-4 times a week including today. Doc said its common not to find the heartrate with the doppler at this stage. Dont worry mama.

  • Thanks for the encouragement @nsaid4u !
I am not too worried really since I still have a good intuition about this. I have felt things that I think might be baby too-including one flutter today. FTM though so I'm not sure if it's gas or a baby :)

  • I'm 15w and they just found my babies Monday. Try not to worry they say it's hard sometimes with the doppler.
  • Im 15w and it always takes them a really long time to find baby. Once they didn't find it and sent me to an emergency US. Scariest 10 minutes EVER but now I dont take the Doppler seriously. I FEEL pregnant and I"m growing so if they don't find it I dont panic anymore
  • They have so much room to hide from the doppler still, so it's probably fine. You could also have an anterior placenta, so it could be hiding the baby. Lots of perfectly safe reasons. I hope thescan is reassuring.

I'm 16 weeks 3 days I went yesterday and the doc had a hard time finding heart beat with Doppler. She finally did but try not to worry! It's not uncommon!
  • When I went to my 12 week appointment it took my doctor an long time to find it and you could barely hear it with a Doppler. I bought one weeks before and mine worked way better then the doctors! Mine was a lot more clear and louder. Mine was only $40 and I was kind of surprised how old theirs was!
  • Sadly they couldn't find the heartbeat on the US. Waiting for the OB to get back to me with my next steps. Since I'm so far along there are other procedures I will have to do.

Thanks for all the encouraging words and best of luck on your pregnancies!
  • I'm so sorry :( I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Thanks everyone.
The worst part now is the waiting. Since it's the weekend I have to wait til Monday to schedule the surgery. And since I'm so far along it will be a bigger surgery with anesthesia and everything. I'm worried and sad and scared all at once.
  • The surgery will be ok, it should be very quick and the anesthesia is good. I felt like I'd had a really great nap when I woke up. I had a little cramping after for a couple days but not much bleeding. So sorry you have to go through this.
  • So sorry for your loss. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
  • I am so sorry that you are going through this. My heart breaks for you.
