On Antidepressnt...what to do?

Have been on escitalopram (cilexa) 10mg just found out I was pregnant 3 days ago. Was wondering how quickly I need to stop taking the meds? Worries about side effects. If anyone has info please let me know. Thanks!

Speak to your dr. regarding this. It's dangerous to go off of them cold turkey.

I too take the sane med, my dr told me to start weaning off by taking half a pill for a week then half a pill every other day for a week then stop. But definitely check with your dr before doing anything.

Talk to your doctor. When I was pregnant this summer, my doctor switched me from the antidepressant I was on to another that is safer during pregnancy.

What the other ladies said. Talk to your doctor. My son is only 8 months old, and I had severe PPD after he was born, and she put me on Zoloft (Sertraline). It's the only antidepressant that has shown to not cause any defects or affect the child after birth. I'm just got my prescription refilled because my mood swings have been horrible lately, but I've noticed a difference. I don't feel guilty about taking it with this one.

Don't do anything without talking to your Dr. Many anti depressants are safer to take during pregnancy than others. I'm bipolar and have come off all my meds before getting pregnant and am staying off of them as long as possible. It's a personal choice if you want to come off completely, but either way you (or someone you trust) had to advocate for your decision. If you feel safe coming off of them let your Dr know and they can safely help you do that.
