Sex & Pregnancy

Hi Everyone! My husband and I are pregnant with our first, due Dec. 2. Since we found out, 2 weeks ago, we haven't had sex. We are both nervous to do it now & I have 2.5 more weeks until we go to the dr for our 8 week ultrasound. Is anyone else nervous? I have read that it is safe, but I'm still worried! What do you all think??

Re: Sex & Pregnancy

  • I'm nervous as well because we had a mc several months ago. I'm paranoid about every twinge and cramp and just not ready to jump into bed this early in.

  • Also nervous as well and haven't DTD since my most fertile week as I didn't want anything to interrupt the 2WW also.
Had my Beta's taken a few days ago so just waiting for the results and want to do an early scan to see heartbeat if possible.
Midwife appointment is booked for 21st April so until my worries are cleared, will still be staying clear.
I'm sure there are other ways of affection that can be shown without actual sex though and as long as your worries are communicated to your partner I'm sure he'll be understanding!
  • I don't think there is a single thing to worry about unless your doctor has put you on pelvic rest.

  • You are safe, but it's understandable to be nervous this early.
  • I found out I'm pregnant 6 days ago but haven't had sex honestly because I'm just so tired! Lol...hope it passes :)
  • You should be good! This is my second pregnancy, I remember being nervous at first too. Mostly now it's bc I am tired. But all throughout pregancy you are safe unless your doc ever says otherwise. The cervix is easily "irritated" though so it might feel different. But if you aren't ready, like one PP said there are other ways of being intimate right now.
  • My libido goes through the roof when preggo, so we DTD plenty and babies are fine. Unless there is an issue present where your doc says not too.. then go for it. You won't hurt baby :)

  • Do it. I'm sure it's a good way to stretch out those tense and ever-stretching pregnancy ligaments and muscles!

  • You're not alone. We haven't had sex either. I'm 5w5d. Waiting until our first doctor appointment on the 14th. I know it's safe but I'm still worried!
  • Sex is healthy for most pregnancies. If it feels good, and you're in the mood, there's no reason to avoid

My libido has been in overdrive lately! And I'll be 6ish weeks on Tuesday!
  • Didn't even occur to me to be nervous so glad to hear it's ok! This is our first pregnancy (5w2d) and I too have been experiencing a higher than normal libido!
  • It helps with post partum recovery as well. It will keep your pelvic floor muscles in shape.
  • I totally get it!! We have only had sex once since finding out And I was super nervous. I don't think we will again until my doc appt 4/30. I am 5w2d.. Everything I have read has said it's safe but my nerves are too bad..
  • It is totally fine to have sex! I was nervous too with my first pregnancy. Have sex now while you can and are feeling good!

  • I am currently 4weeks and 6days and since we got our BFP the 25th, I've been scared ever since. We actually had sex the first time the other night since my fertile week, and I was terrified when I started spotting afterwards! Thankfully, it stopped and nothing since, but after that I told SO it's going to have to wait a bit. I feel bad, but that really terrified me.
  • I have kept up my normal sex life and have not had any issues. We did have sex around the 5 week mark and the next day I had some sharp pains in my uterus first thing in the morning. After I went to the bathroom the pain sent away and I've been fine every since. Do what feels right for you. If you are going to be stressed after having sex, that will not be good for the baby so do what your comfortable with.
  • Go for it! Don't let that stress you.. it's safe. Especially if you are feeling well. Just had my first doc appointment today.. and she used a pretty big looking probe to do the ultrasound.. internally.
  • I am 5wks2days and DTD twice this wknd because my DH was home after not seeing him for 3wks and he is gone now for another 3...
I had quite a bit of bleeding the 1st time but no pain and no continued bleeding. It scared me but since it stopped right away we DTD again 2 days later...I bled again but not as much and it stopped right away again...I know it sounds scary and I was a bit panicky but I feel fine and my symptoms are all still normal/consistant with before...I guess I figure its not the sex causing something bad to happen, if theres blood its because of something else and sex is just opening the pathway for the blood to escape. Not having sex is not going to make it magically better if there is something wrong so why deprive myself or my DH? here's to hoping its nothing!!
  • The blood could do with an irritated cervix, especially later in pregnancy, which is totally normal! Also can happen with any internal exams.
