I need my hair colored so bad but I've heard that even though there is no known side effects of dying your hair in the 1st trimester it is safest to wait until the 2nd just in case
I remember someone told me it's okay anytime during pregnancy as long as it's ammonia free. I know I did mine but I only did it once and can't remember when.
They told me it's perfectly fine just NO BLEACHING. They emphasized the no bleaching big time. It has more harmful chemicals in it. That's all I was told by my ob.
I get my hair highlighted with bleach and doctor said it was ok because highlights don't go to the root so it's not soaking into the scalp. Straight color is worse for that reason. But the fumes and chemicals at salon in general are bad. I'm waiting until 12 weeks just to be safe. Well maybe 10 because I have a wedding and work conference to attend and it's been a while. Didn't recognize my natural color when it came out!
Part of the reason why you don't want to dye your hair while preggo is the fumes in thr salon. Try to go when they aren't so busy and you're the only (or one of few) chemical services being done at the time. Also the hormones raging in your body can make your hair color go wacko on you. My mom's been a cosmetologist for over 20 years... She emphasizes to pregnant clients that she can't guarantee the results while pg. Most people go in and have no issues... But then you have one that ends up with green hair.... Not so fun for that person. She suggests doing a small test section in an inconspicuous location. If it turns out fine then go for it. Just know the fumes and all are more harmful during the 1st trimester. And could induce morning sickness as well....
I work in a salon full of moms and touch dye every day of my life and we're all fine and kids are healthy! They are perfectly safe, unless your doctor specifies otherwise, if your high risk, etc. then go for it!
My doc is pretty laid back but told me to wait until week 14/second trimester. AND TRUST ME I NEED IT BAD! My last pregnancy it was a dead giveaway...my roots are all grey. So gross.
I can't make a signature with a picture and/or a ticker for the life of me...
There is a post about this a few pages back, I think one of the answers was from a stylist. I dyed my hair about 2 weeks ago. To each her own though. My first pregnancy it freaked me out, so I waited until I was 7 months. My hair was ALWAYS in a ponytail because I couldn't stand it.....and I was too exhausted to do anything with it.
My doctor said it's fine. She prefers I get highlights (which I always do anyway) because it doesn't touch your scalp or sit on your head like all-over dye. I'm 11 weeks and 3 days. I'm going at the end of next week (almost 13 weeks) to get my highlights. My hair is sooooo horrible right now. I'musing natural shampoo and conditioner that doesn't contain any dyes, perfume, parabens, phthalates, SLS, or anything else harmful, so I need something to make it look better, pronto!!!
I'm a hairstylist and 15 +1 preggo. Coloring your hair is absolutely fine any time during pregnancy. I've been coloring my hair all along. However for most of my preggo client I'll use non ammonia color and bleach just to be safe. But you'll be fine. There is no harm in coloring your hair.
For 13.5 weeks I have used no hair products and washed my hair only with non toxic shampoo which I had ordered from Canada. I suffer from psoriasis, dandruff, eczema....lol...its been hard!!! Yesterday I went in for a haircut and I am sure have like 5 different products in my hair now. I am still not brave enough to color my hair but even getting a funky haircut has felt amazing...
