Toddlers: 24 Months+

Ok, maybe I'm the crazy one......

Long story short, DH doesn't know a lot about babies. He has a habit of listening to his mom or co-workers instead of me when it comes to DD (so annoying!). So here's a couple of things that his mom has said in the past....both her children were over a MONTH overdue, when DH was around 11 months he was eating 4 jars of baby food at each meal, and her latest......DH was potty trained before he was a year old. (as you can see, she's not all there!) So of course, since DH knows nothing about babies, he tells me today that we need to start potty training DD. Ummm...she can't even fully walk yet! Yikes! Help me!!!!!

  • Oh my...CRAZY MILs!!  My MIL is nuts as well.  I can feel your pain, and my husband doesn't just go to her, but also to his grandmother!   She thought we should give DS honey for his RSV at the age of 4 months!  LOL!  ILs are NUTS!  Try to tell DH you want to raise your DD in your own way without their help!  GL

  • That is crazy!  My DD is 21 months old, tells me she went pee, asks to sit on the toilet, wipes, and flushes, but we are not potty training b/c she can't tell me before she actually has to go.  She just makes up the peeing part to sit there LOL!  It will be far more obvious when she is ready.

  • OH Geez. My MIL says stuff like that and I I let it slide until the day she told me that when DN was 2 she was speaking in full sentences and we understood every word. She said DS who was 16months at the time is behind. I reminded her that DN is now six and still says Wook not Look and Wisten not Listen and I was friends with SIL before she was pregnant and I remember DN not speaking well at all so she needs to check herself!

  • LOL! My MIL claims DH was about a month overdue as well....not sure exactly how that happens!

I can imagine an 11 month-old eating 4 jars of the stage 1 - DS was well into 3 square meals with real food at 11 months!

Tell DH to have fun with potty training DD and he can clean up all the accidents!

  • My grandma swears she was pregnant 13 months with my dad and that they thought he was a tumor. So when he was born he had no skin and was 8 lbs 9 oz... (I think she just says that so it looks like she conceived with a certain guy.)

  • I would just start looking at DH and say straight-faced "you should call the pedi to ask the nurse how to go about that."  Then when he comes back with the nurse, after laughing hysterically, agreeing with you, tell him that you're tired of him coming back with the lunacies spouted by others and the fact he doesn't trust you, so from now on he can direct his crazy ideas to the dr and let them at least get a laugh out of it rather than merely serve to annoy you.

  • Then tell him that he needs to go read books about potty training to learn how to do it.  I bet he'll drop that idea quickly if he's in charge!
