hi! Just wondered if anyone else is vegetarian and how they made sure they got enough protein and iron for the baby? Any advice will be much appreciated.
Have you tried Shakeology? It has the perfect blend of all the nutrients you need without animal protein. I've known many pregnant women that chose to drink a shake a day over a prenatal and their doctors were totally behind it. Any questions let me know! I'm drinking my banana vanilla shake while I write this!
I like my shakeology! I've never tried the vegan flavor, but I can't get enough of the greenberry. It makes DH want to vomit though. O_o My OB said it was fine to take and supplement with additional folic acid.

I was a vegetarian for my first pregnancy and this one. My doctor was not concerned at all. For protein I eat beans, nuts, and tofu. And weirdly enough I had problems with low iron levels the entire time I was a meat eater, I gave up meat 5 years ago and since then never tested low for iron again ( I know this it not the norm ) I am taking a prenatal to be on the safe side. So long as you eat healthy I don't think it matters if you are a vegetarian or not.
I too was vegetarian for my last pregnancy, and my midwife was entirely unconcerned. I did end up having low iron and took iron pills during the second half of my pregnancy, but that's been my issue for a long time. I eat a ton of lentils, beans, and tofu, though they do recommend not overdoing soy when pregnant with a boy. I also eat a fair number of eggs, though last pregnancy I had to stop, because they smelled like fish. It was weird. I agree with MargaretC5, as long as you're healthy, it doesn't much matter if you're vegetarian.
