Hi ladies. I got my BFP last week and we are thrilled! I should be about 8 weeks on my birthday. Any fun suggestions on how I can surprise my family with the news when we are together celebrating?
My husband's birthday is in a few days, and we haven't told our parents about the BFP yet - so this is what we were planning to do (to announce to his parents, at least).
His parents always call him on his birthday, so when they call he's going to ask them to switch to FaceTime instead (we all have iPhones/iPads) so they can see him open the presents they sent him. Then once he's finished, I'll hand him "one more present" from me - which he'll open and then show them the sign inside that says "Baby [LastName] Due December 2015."
My DH and I told our parents this weekend! I had cookies made by a local bakery. The cookies were shaped like a heart and had "Baby due Dec. 2015". I had the waiter bring them out before we started eating
You could tell them you want to show them all the "gifts" your DH got for you, which could all be baby or pregnancy themed and each one could get progressively more telling. So maybe a movie like Knocked Up or Baby Mama, ginger ale, a maternity shirt, sparking cider, and then some things like wipes, a pacifier, onesie, a copy of WTEWYE book... Assuming along the way they would figure it out I did something similar with my parents last time (although I gave them the gifts to open and the last one was a "grandparents" frame and copy of our 1st u/s)
Congrats on the BFP! Let us know what you end up doing!
For our first one we told parents on my dad's birthday. I got him a coffee mug that said "this dad is being promoted to grandpa" and wrapped it up with some coffee as his birthday present. It was fun watching him figure it out. ( my mom got it right away). For this one we are getting DS a big brother tshirt.
My birthday is coming up on the 28th. My husband thinks it's funny I'm getting so excited thinking of how to tell our family, but it's really important to me that it's a surprise. Our baby won't necessarily be the first for all of our parents, but it will be the closest.
Anyway, one of my ideas if we decide to announce on my birthday. My husband is going to give me a big box to unwrap "from him". When I open it, pink and blue balloons pop out, possibly attached to a sign that says "We're pregnant!" or possibly the sonogram, though I'm not sure we would have it yet by then.
