Trouble finding a crib!

We can't make a decision on a crib! We are deciding on a Babies R Us Baby Cashe Harbor and a Pottery Barn Larkin or Elliott. What are you guys getting?

Re: Trouble finding a crib!

  • We have a Pottery Barn crib, but still haven't assembled it yet... two months later :(
    Coffee Bean Born 6/13/15.
    2nd round exp 8/20/18.

  • Which one?

  • We were given a babies r us crib. Husband put it together by himself.
  • Kendall
    Coffee Bean Born 6/13/15.

    Meow.
  • I ended up getting the Kendall crib from Pottery Barn and did the white glove delivery where they set it up for you.
  • You'll get a better response if you post picks. If you want it by d day, you better order soon. Some take up to 12 weeks. Of course, you don't need it by then but it's nice to have everything done and show it off.

Franco Paul born 6/4/15 at 39 weeks.  Mila Francesca born 10/19/13 at 37 weeks.  Both born via C-Section after 6 years of fertility treatments, disappointments and losses. Love them!!

  • I just ordered baby cache Vienna. I was looking at the Montana but then thought the straight headboard would be a bit more boyish for when it converts. My dad is in the furniture business and he highly recommended baby cache. Also was given an A rating in a book I have.
  • These are all beautiful but I feel like no one actually converts these things and some babies only sleep in them from 6 months to 2 years. Maybe it's less of a hard decision if you look at something more basic. We are using are crib from day one but we went with the cheapest ikea model and a nice naturpedic mattress. It's very sturdy, I think it looks great, and when we are done we'll just give it away. My toddler just switched to a big boy bed so this was moved from his room but I was going to buy the same again as I was really happy with it.

  • We went with the baby cache Montana from BRU. It's a company with a lot of good reviews and seems real sturdy so it will withstand the multiple children we plan on having and will convert to other types of beds for the last kid. :)

  • We plan on sharing a room with the baby at least for the first few months, and have limited space otherwise, so we bought the Babyletto Origami Mini Crib (plus a thicker mattress) and absolutely love it! My 10 month old nephew has tried it out for us a few times and still has plenty of room to grow.

Not the best photo, but here's how we have things set up for now!
  • We got the Munire Medford crib in white.  I ordered it from Amazon with free shipping.  We also got the matching dresser, but that's on back
    order :(

  • We chose the Larkin, it's on it's way to us now. And they put it together for you, couldn't be better! We personally liked the more solid look of the back as opposed to being the same on all four sides. But that is just our preference. Good luck!

We went with a Sorelle Vista Elite Vintage Frost, we got it from BRU.
It is really sturdy, and took about an hour to put together.  We are happy with the finished product, now just need to get the little guy his mattress :)
We also ordered the matching double dresser, which we also love :)
  • STMs+: do you convert the crib into a toddler bed or usually buy an actual toddler bed when LOs outgrow the crib?
  • My sister waited till my nephew was 3 and then just converted hers to a full bed for him

Seems like most people need the crib for the 2nd one. I thought toddler beds were silly and was planning to go to a full or twin but we were gifted a used ikea one. I love it bc my toddler pees through his diaper all the time and the waterproof pads only work so well. Crib mattress is saved for new baby, and my toddler won't have to sleep in his 18 year old piss when he's in college!

We never used a toddler bed, we converted it right to a full size bed.  We bought a new crib for this baby so she could also have a nice bed that would grow with her.

  • My worry is some of them say max weight is 165 or less when converted to a full size bed. Doesn't that seem a little low? What if they have a friend stay when they are a little older? Anyone have any ideas on what brands will actually be a secure bed when converted?

I never knew that some had a weight limit on the full size conversion.  I'm off to check the specs on both cribs we have.

  • Good point about the weight limit...just looked up the two that we are thinking about the Larkin and Harbor Baby Cache. 122 and 148 respectively.
  • And add in the weight of a mattress and boxsprings. Doesn't leave much for growth.
  • My son's crib turned into a toddler bed and we are getting ready to convert to full... It's a beautiful set and has the matching dresser so I expect him to have it until he moves out!

My 4 year old nephew is in a bed that was converted. When I visit I take turns sleeping with him or my niece and I am about 180. Never have an issue

Well it doesn't mean that if you're over the limit it's going to crumple like a leaf! It is something to think about, though. I think the convertibles are not worth it because who puts a three year old in a full-sized bed? Obviously people do, but I'd rather have more space in the kid's room for playing. Plus, I've heard that lots of babies chew on the wood so you can't really convert it anyway.
  • We got a DaVinci Porter convertible crib from BRU. Love it!
  • We ordered the DaVinci Jayden crib and extra wide dresser... Started building dresser last night and it's really nice! I love simple furniture and it got tons of really great reviews. Have not received crib yet so I can't comment on that but the reviews were very good as well!
  • I'd probably be pretty concerned if my baby was chewing through wood like a beaver and I didn't notice until the entire crib was ruined from ever being convertible !!

    Love the wall!
  • I got a used crib given to me and what it says as a disclaimer is that once its converted the warranty is no longer effective if you convert it back to a regular crib. I am not too concerned but something to check out.
  • We bought the Baby Cache Harbor crib, dresser and changing top for the dresser. They are beautiful and very sturdy! We agonized over which one to get and chose this one because of the look and the positive reviews.
  • I got a DaVinci Kalani. I liked a lot of cribs but I really just wanted one that was reasonably priced, with positive reviews, and this one happened to be on sale with the military exchange a few weeks back - meaning we could buy it on sale (it was about $20 cheaper than amazon), tax free because it was thru the military exchange, and use our exchange card, which has a ridiculous low apr. It was just delivered today, looking forward to putting it together

My DaVinci Jayden crib was delivered today.... It's really beautiful and great wood quality... However the the toddler rail was damaged and cracked so I have to call the company tomorrow and ask for them to send me a replacement piece... At least I can put the crib together though!
  • I also got a Kalani. Nice color and finish and very sturdy... But it is big!

Yes the box is longer than I expected. You can read the dimensions and think to yourself 'oh, xx inches long, that's about so long' but seeing it in person is a whole other thing. At least it will convert into a sizable toddler bed, etc!

It just looks crappy, I didn't say the kid was chewing through it.
  • We got the graco lauren signature convertible after reading consumer reports tests.
