1st Trimester

Question for teachers

SO I am up for tenure at the end of this year and will attain tenure the first day back......however,  I am due at the end of July and will be returning in November. Have you had any problems with your job or the threat of returning? It's not my boss I have to worry about..it's the head of HR...any suggestions?

Re: Question for teachers

  • I work with a woman who was in the same situation.  So she actually came back on the first day--the inservice day--then didn't return for a couple more months.

  • I'm in the same boat. I'm nervous to tell before April when they renew the contracts. But I'm afraid I won't be able to wait until then.  I'm due in August, so I would be out til November as well. I would love any feedback or advice on this.

  • I have already told my school and they are all excited. I will be returning for inservices and maybe a few days the first week so my students can meet me but then I will be off until November. My boss told me that I don't have to make any decisions until the end of the school year about taking time off. If you talk to the school and are willing to listen hopefully they will work with you.

I had DD in Feb and couldn't afford to come back for the end of the year (childcare would've put us in the red). I kept my supervisor updated- the school was very supportive. I then attended the in-service week in June and returned in September. As PPs mentioned, the in-service is an important piece. Hopefully HR will be supportive. GL!
