My mom and little sister (age 18) are planning my Shower, and I know we have odd tastes when it comes to foods - we are probably having the event catered, but what are some interesting Baby Shower foods?
The Shower will be over the lunch hour, so I think an actual lunch would be ideal! Buffet style is great! We want to think-outside-the-box, and have foods that even my Husband and his male friends and family would enjoy after the girly Shower is over and we carry on with a coed party.
Just looking for your experiences or thoughts! Thanks!
Food that "even" your DH and male friends will like? Huh? I didn't realize food was gender specific.
Well, a lot of Shower foods I've found just googling...are very feminine, finger sandwiches and little cakes and stuff.
I would love stuff like hummus and pita, and things like that. I guess I should also have mentioned that the audience is mostly vegetarian and vegan...but anything can be changed a bit to suit veggies
For showers that I've hosted, I typically do an assortment of quiches from my local French bakery, chicken salad sandwiches on croissants, a cheese and fruit tray, crudités with herb dip, hummus and crackers, and usually a peel and eat shrimp boil.
My husband will usually munch on whatever's left over, but he would rather lick a toilet seat than attend a baby shower, even a "co-Ed" one.
Just serve whatever foods you'd typically serve at a party.
He and his friends won't be sitting there for the boring Shower part (it's boring to me too to be perfectly honest, I avoid Showers like the plague usually), but after all the Shower stuff - it'll turn into a coed party and just hanging out. I specifically wanted my mom to have the Shower at her house and her big backyard for this reason. Country clubs are nice, but just not personal enough. I picture myself barefoot in the summer sun, in her backyard.
I think hummus sounds great! I really should have mentioned that we need vegetarian/vegan dishes for family and friends!

Seriously I don't even know why you are bothering with a shower?
Family wants to throw one for me, and it's much more than a gift fest to us, we are very spiritual about it.

Then you really should let them throw it for you and stop dictating everything.

Not really sure what your sister's age has to do with this...

Lol at a baby shower being spiritual. That is a new one for me.

Wow, really? I'm shocked! My family is part-Cherokee! A baby shower is also known as a Blessing Way! Gifts are such a tiny part of the day lol

I'm not dictating anything! Why are so many ladies on here so salty about every little thing?! I asked a question about foods! LOL!
As a guest, I like showers for the food lol (since I'm not getting gifts). I'd be disappointed with humus or cold sandwiches- I like warm food- truffled mac n cheese, short rib risotto, sliders... I don't know, just some ideas
If it's outdoors why not have a BBQ with grilled veggie skewers or veggie burgers or something? Spanickopita Falafel, and Samosas are good hot veggie apps. Love hummus! Maybe some veggies to dip in it. Most showers I've been to are in the afternoon and it's mostly apps like tortilla rolls, fruit, veggie & cheese trays and cake.
Try a bunch of salads. My hubby really likes this thing called cornbread salad: mexican cornbread, canned corn, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, mayo, and bacon. I know your vegeterian so you can skip the bacon or have it on the side for those guests who may like it. The salad is really colorful but the flavors really work well together. I have made it for a baby shower and a wedding shower and had many compliments on it( and very few leftovers).
