Got smoothies? Post your faves!

Hey ladies! There was a brief smoothie post when @CRivera07 posted one of her faves, but it didn't go too far and I'm looking for more recipes! I am trying to get lots of good, natural, from the source nutrients, but there aren't a lot of fruits that I really want to just "grab and go" with. I got a new blender last Thursday for my birthday and I'm looking or yummy smoothies to blend up and have as breakfast, snacks, whatever! Full disclosure, I'm not huge on bananas, and unfortunately I tried the "green smoothie" wagon and it just wasn't for me, but feel free to post recipes with those for modification and for others of course! :)

Re: Got smoothies? Post your faves!

  • I've been doing

    Kiwi
Spinach and Kale for the Iron
    Cucumber
    Apple
Frozen Cranberries (covers up the green taste)
Pineapple juice (iron absorbs best with vit c)

I promise it tastes delicious I found for me just throwing in all your favorites you can't go wrong.
  • I think green smoothies taste 10000x better with pineapple added. It really makes a difference. I can't wait for my csa to start. It's all greens for the first 6 weeks but they are so much tastier than from the supermarket.

I juice a lot. My favorite is beet, orange and carrot. I'm not sure if that computes to smoothies though.

I use plain Greek yogurt and add a splash of real homemade vanilla OR vanilla Greek yogurt.

Frozen fruits of choice. Fresh berries taste better but are seasonal. If I use fresh I use ice. I don't use ice with frozen berries.

Milk or juice (I skip the sweetener, below, if I use something like real OJ).

    Sweetener - honey, sugar.

Veggies (I usually do spinach since the flavor is more mild than kale). You can freeze spinach if you can't get fresh every couple days.

Half avocado, half banana, lots of almond milk, and spinach.

For creamier fruity smoothie, I do Greek yogurt, almond milk, half banana, fresh berries or half ripe peach. I top with raw sliced almonds, goji berries and organic granola and eat with a spoon.

Since u don't like bananas, use honey for sweetener and another natural thickener like avocado or mango.

  • @missmandah I never thought to use cucumbers, that sounds yummy though :)
Thanks for the tips everybody! They all look like some good things to try. I should probably just suck it up and try green smoothies again haha. And thanks for the tip on pineapple @bpv101283! I'll have to see if that makes them tolerable for me!
  • @sugarmagn0lia trust me hun if the green shakes tasted green I wouldn't drink them. My shakes tend to not come out the most appealing color but I put it in a solid tumbler and drink it fast. Another thing make sure if you do use green like spinach or kale make sure to use something with vitamin c as it helps the body with absorption of iron.
  • Haha @missmandah maybe I just need to hide it and go also. Thanks for the vitamin c tip too! I have trouble keeping my iron up, so that a super helpful thing to know :)
  • Cherry, blueberry, and grapes with a little bit of kiefer to make it less thick and to get some probiotics (yogurt is the enemy right now) Sometimes I add in unsweetened apple sauce too. I'm trying to stick to fruits that are naturally sweeter so I'm not tempted to add sugar in since I can't stand sour stuff.
  • Often, smoothies are the only thing I can stomach in the mornings without getting sick. And I'm super tired/not feeling well/lazy so I go the easiest route possible.

I use big bags of frozen fruit from the grocery store, like right now I'm using the "vitamin c mix" with strawberries, mangoes, pineapple, and peaches. I then just add some orange juice and almond milk, and lately I've been adding in half a dose of miralax. Simple, tasty, and I don't have any problems getting it down and keeping it down.
  • @raspell I've never seen a mix like that in our grocery store - I'll have to check again, it sounds awesome. I'll also definitely have to get some almond milk like other ladies have suggested too.

@missliz53 for some reason when you posted that the exact mix sounded so yummy! That pregnancy belly, just takes a suggestion and runs with it haha. I don't care much for sour fruit either, I hadn't consider applesauce as sweetener! Also... what is kiefer? And I thought yogurt was good...why is it the enemy? I'm sorry if I'm just underinformed :| I just don't want to be taking misinformation (like thinking yogurt is a good thing!) and blindly going with it. Help?
