Names

Is anyone else having a hard time with names? My husband won't have a serious conversation about names until we know the gender.

Re: Names

  • We've had our boy name picked out since before we were married, have a tentative girl name, but wanna see how I feel. Hubby seems sold on it though. Try to enjoy the period of exploring new names. If you have a list you love, when he's ready to talk seriously, you'll be armed and ready.

Yes, names are tough for me too. Every time I want to talk names hubby isn't interested. I know he will be once we hear the heartbeat and/or see baby on sonogram.

  • My husband, daughter and I each have a middle name. And he says of we have another girl she can have a middle name, but if we have a boy he doesn't want to give him a middle name. I'm like, "NOO! He'd be so left out with out a middle name!"
  • We picked our names a year before we even got engaged and we've been married now for almost two years.  The only thing up for debate is whether the middle name if it's a boy will be the same as my husband's middle name.  But if it's a girl, that doesn't matter.  Lol
  • This is so funny. My husband is the same way about names...he sees no reason to go down this road until we know the gender. He is all about efficiency!

I asked him how he felt about naming a boy after him with my dads first name as a middle name. His adorable response "I'm not opposed to that"

As for a girl name, nothing. Nada. I have NO idea how people pick girl names.
  • We have a boy name that I think we are settled on, but we cannot agree on girl names! I think DH is so dead set on a boy that his brain won't think girl! Hahaha. I have a gut feeling that it's a girl, he will be so in love!
  • We have no clue. We talk about it but have nothing even close to a top 5. We're like Ross and Rachel in "Friends"- is Veto starting to sound good? Lol-- we just have different ideas. I'm thinking finding out the gender will help us :) it's a tough task!

  • Lol too funny my fiancé picked the girl name n I have to pick the boy name, now I already have two boys so I really don't know! Lol
My fiancé is Italian n I'm Latina so I'm trying to look for a Latino or Italian name, this is making me crazy hahaha :)
  • We picked out our names a few weeks ago and they just came to us so smoothly, for a boy and a girl. Don't stress about them, just let them come to you!
  • You don't technically have to decide until you do the paperwork in the hospital! Lol! I am thinking ours (#3) will be picked somewhere between 37-41 weeks...heaven help us to get a nursery done! Lol! DS (#2) was started at 34 weeks!

It's true! My parents didn't plan me so they had my at the time eight year old brother name me after I was born. I'm named after my brother's first crush. Lol
  • We have an idea for a girl. It is the other name we liked when we had our daughter. But for a boy there is only one name that is sticking around but I don't know if I'm crazy about it. Hopefully knowing the gender will help.
  • We have had a girl name in mind since our first pregnancy, but haven't been able to use it yet...not sure if we will stick with it since the first two pregnancies didn't work out. We never settled on boys names...i think we will start talking about it once we make it past12 weeks.

@StefH1973 My sister has no middle name and she feels a little slighted. It doesn't help that my mom tells her it's because her dad was so disgusted to find out she was a girl when she was born and she's lucky to have a name at all. Great mom. <- my mom I mean.

This is exactly my husband. He has responded with that same sentence, verbatim, and his way of life is "truth and efficiency"!

Yeah, we're in a similar boat... Husband is Indian, I am white/American. Although we're trying to find names that work in both cultures (we were going to do the split boy/girl thing, but we've decided to try to mesh instead).
