Hair Dye

Hi,

Are you allowed to dye your hair when pregnant? Or is it recommended not to?

I have read so many different things.

Advice please :):)

My doctors were totally fine with it. I colored my hair in both of my prior pregnancies and had healthy babies.

With my first pregnancy, I waited and got very creative to hide the roots. With the second, my doctor was adamant that there was no cause for concern, and I colored my hair around 8 weeks. No issues. Good luck!

I always say go by what your doctors says, but as a hair stylist we are around it all the time, and when we become pregnant it isn't like we stop working, and plenty of stylist have happy healthy babies !

I haven't dyed my hair since I found out I'm pregnant, but a friend of mine went from blonde to brunette, and her little boy wasn't affected by it

Thank you everyone! Do you think I should go to a salon to get it done or do it myself? I normally do my own but don't know if a salon would be a bit safer?

I wait till the 2nd trimester just to be extra cautious.  I usually dye my own hair at home (actually DH dyes it for me it's too long to do myself) but when I'm pregnant I use that as an excuse to go to an Aveda salon and use their dye since it's more natural :)

I'm paranoid about everything...food, hair dye, nail polish..lol.  My doctor said at 16 weeks it is fine.  but then she said she dyed her hair when she was pregnant!  I really want to dye my hair..but will wait just to be safe.

I'm a hair dresser and I'm around hair color all day long. I was totally fine and gave birth to a happy healthy baby. My doc knew i was a hairdresser and never had a problem with it.
The only thing i did notice was i was a lot more sensitive when i was coloring my hair. Ask your hairdresser for a demi permanent color if the color irritates your skin.

One thing i will add is a lot of box colors user an extremely high peroxide so you are probably best going to a salon :)

My doc is so wishy washy.  first visit she says 2nd tri  is ok, but then when I went last week she said that she "couldn't recommend it" and try Henna.  My sister is a stylist and says Henna is very hard to get out when and if I go back to salon color.  I booked my appointment with my stylist when I'll be 14 weeks but my doc now has me scared again!! My hair is looking awful, I have been getting greys since 23 years old and now since I'm 37 they are coming in full force.  It doesn't help when my husband is joking around and calls me his silver fox! wahh! :(

I asked my doctor, she said it's totally fine, as long as you're not doing multiple processes/multiple chemicals. (i.e. all over dye AND highlights AND lowlights AND a perm, etc).
