Bananas helped me a lot. I don't know what about them, but they did the trick. I started getting constipated again a day or two after I ran out so I made my husband buy more. Lol I do metamucil occasionally too because that's what my midwife recommended.
Colace three at night and regular again.I'm also on a prescribed medication that binds me I mean so bad I wouldn't go for nine days.So glad I found something that works
As others have said - PRUNE JUICE. Seriously, just do it. It might taste kind of gross at first but after a while I started to like the taste. I just drink a glass of it every night before bed and it keeps me regular. Careful not to drink too much though or you'll have the opposite problem lol.
With my first pregnancy, I didn't have a BM for TWO WEEKS. They put me in the hospital and I was on Morphine to control the pain. They tried everything. Ended up needing to do a yoga pose (knees apart, chest and face on the floor). That combined with Miralax started to help. Had it start again this pregnancy and they immediately took my off the pre natal vitamins with iron...that seems to be the culprit for me. Now I take pre natals with no iron and things are a better. Maybe just ask and see what they say? Do you by chance take Progesterone also? That also causes the severe constipation with me. Good luck and feel better!
Goodbelly probiotic drink daily or daily fresh green juice works for me ! Green juice = cucumber, kale, spinach, green apple, lettuce, parsley, lemon, ginger. I either make the green juice at home or purchase from a local juice market but it's expensive , $9. Entirely worth it though because of the high sugar content in prune juice and also goodbelly probiotics. I used to eat activia but learned it has the rbst hormone and too much sugar, so for my yogurt I only eat organic grass fed yogurt or Fage brand which doesn't have the rbst hormone. Prunes also have too much sugar, if I'm going to eat sugar it will be on something delicious and enjoyable, not something that is merely a means to an end! As you can tell I'm way into an organic low sugar pregnancy diet but this is mainly because I have a history of bulimia so anything I put into my body is a whole food and a conscious decision about what is best for myself and baby.
I also take New Chapter perfect prenatals, which have a probiotic built in.
The best cure is for me is prevention, eating a healthy diet with lots of fiber (whole wheat only, one juicy apple/day), no greasy foods or unhealthy carbs.
Probiotics! They helped me right out! Lifeway low fat probiotic smoothie (strawberry banana ) is so great. Serving size is 1 cup but I do about half to 3/4. It also helps keep you from too many bad cravings. My find was accidental but once I started drinking it, I knew what was doing the trick and was hooked. Good luck!
I finally just had to go the Miralax route which was super traumatizing but eventually everything... Moved. And I can say now I am feeling SO much better!
OTC stool softener, as prescribed by my Doctor when I was on Zofran. I used the stool softeners for about 3 weeks, til I reached relief through switching to Digcleis (better on the tummy for constipation and knocks out nausea just as well, if not better!)
Also, an apple a day, with the skin on, bananas and lots of water never hurt anyone!
This is the worst.....but get some Ground flax seed (a little works wonders) ... in cereal, yogurt, ice cream...on salad...anything. Problem solved! Seriously...start with half a teaspoon. Totally natural no drugs needed.
I haven't had any problems yet, but I noticed quite a few women mentioned eating bananas and I eat 2-3 every day and drink tons of water, so maybe that helps!
My dr said apples bananas any bread non bran and apple juice all are constipating....and to avoid them entirely if having issues. Anything on the BRAT diet has the opposite effect of getting things moving. Lol
Re: Constipation...
Thanks ladies!
My midwife recommended 400mg of magnesium, twice a day. Amazing. I even had to cut back to one dose a day.
