Telling friends at 12 weeks.. When do you tell boss? before?

I am planning on telling my friends and announcing my pregnancy on facebook when I am 12 weeks pregnant!  Should I tell my boss before I announce it to the world?  What is the polite thing to do?  I told my boss at 8 weeks during my first pregnancy because I was soooo sick at work.  This time around I can handle myself better.  

So.. should I tell my boss after it's out and everyone already knows or should I tell them a few days before I announce it to the world?

I don't think it really matters when you tell either. I keep my work life and personal life separate, if they happen to intermix with each other and my boss finds something out about my personal life and questions me about it, I let them know it's either none of their business or if it's something i'm comfortable talking with, we'll talk about it.

 

these are all decisions that there isn't really a handbook for. it's all in how you want to do it.

I think I might tell my boss a few days before I announce it to my friends.

I'm a teacher. I always tell my principal first, then go straight to my HODs office, and then just tell other work friends as it comes up.

I think it's polite, but also my work is very chatty, and I'm good friends with a number of colleagues including my HOD

I think it is better to tell your boss first, if there is any chance of hearing it from your friends or via facebook.

Tell your boss first if there is any chance at all they may hear it from someone else.

I would tell close friends and family 1st, I would also tell my boss before putting it on Facebook.

I told my boss right away but that is because I work around gasses that are dangerous and are known to cause miscarriages.

If it's a safety thing, tell them sooner rather than later. Although If not that big of a deal, you could just wait until you make it past the 1st trimester. I wish I could follow my own advice because I always seem to tell everybody right away. It really made no difference on when I told work, although it always helps to tell HR so many months before so they can anticipate when I'll be going out on FMLA so that they can line up someone to cover my position while I'm out.

I told my boss right away,but I am an EMT in a steel mill so I needed some serious adjustment to my duties at work.

I told my boss at 8 weeks..using some sick time which is unusual for me..no one else us aware yet....If it's not affecting your job I would wait..whatever feels right to you
