Hi all! First time mommy here, living abroad and planning on buying clothes a bit early as they are way cheaper in the US than where I live and my family is coming over in a few months so they will bring my orders over! Wondering about sizing! Of course it depends on the size of the baby, but say I have a 7-8 lb baby- are newborn clothes even worth buying or is it better to have a little room to grow and start in 0-3 month sizes? I am trying to keep it minimalist as we live in a tiny one bedroom and have barely any storage as it is... Would love to just skip the newborn size. Any advice would be appreciated
I would definitely buy newborn clothes for your baby. You'll be surprised at how small your baby is when first born. 0-3 months always fell off my daughter when she was born for the first month. She was a very average size baby at 7 lbs 6.9 ounces.

This will be #3 for me and I would recommend newborn clothes for sure! DS was 9 lbs 14oz, and DD 9 lbs as well and they were both in newborn for about a month (DD a little longer). ...and I cloth diaper her in the newborn stage too
You need some newborn clothes, but if your kids are much like mine, the outfits are going to be hidden under swaddling devices most of the time anyway. A cheap pack of t-shirts or onesies will get you pretty far. I'd still get at least one cute outfit for photos though.
I used premie onesies for my 8 lb 4 oz daughter for about the first 2-3 weeks. Everything else just swallowed her. Even when they're big, they're teeny
I'm not buying any . My son wore them out of the hospital and that was about it . He was 9 lbs and 23 inches long . Our babies are big I won't waste the money but that was my experience.
I'd buy just few outfits in 0-3 months or newborn size. You can always add more.
I hardly bought anything that small for my son, and he was 7lbs 11oz at birth and stayed under 12 lbs till he was 3 months old. He was still in 0-3 sizes his whole first 3 months.
But other babies may grow a lot faster, and they may be out of those sizes within a couple weeks.
I would say yes to NB size clothes. Like a few others said, at least the first few weeks they are "likely" to be in them. I remember specifically buying only 0-3 onsies for DS#2, and when he was but a few days old, I sent husband out to pick up NB sized ones...and he was 8.2lbs. My thoughts!
For my first I thought like you and didn't buy many newborn outfits at all. He ended up wearing newborn sizes for over a month so we got a few at the last minute and kept him mostly in onesies. With DD we learned our lesson and it was a good thing too because she was only 6lbs 4oz and was in them for quite a while. I vote yes you do need them, but not a ton. Also remember that some brands run smaller than others. I think gerber was very small and 0-3 fit like newborn, but I don't remember any of the other brands
My son was 8lbs 11oz and newborn didnt fit him. I had to buy 0-3 to bring him home from the hospitl...i think it can depend on the brand how big they fit.? Having a few newborn wouldnt hurt tho...next time i think il bring 2 sizes to the hosptl!
My son was 8lbs 10oz but long and lean. I cloth diapered as well. He wore newborn sized clothes for the first two weeks or so and then they got too short.
It's hard to say. I didn't need any newborn clothes with my first two. They were both big babies and went right to the 0-3 size. For the first month, I loved dressing them in those gowns with the covered hands. They're super easy for diaper changing and keep them warm.
I would say yes my DD was 8 lbs and wore them for a month but she was long and skinny 0-3 she was swimming in (personally I like there there clothes to fit kind of fitted) but it does also depend on the brands gap I thought was huge, some higher end stuff I got as gifts was super tiny, Carter's I always find to be all over the place with sizes
My thought is that yes, you will want nb sizes. My first was born at 9.7 and went home in a nb outfit (the 0-3 was too big). He was in nb for a few months. Different brands fit differently. I have found carters and gerber to fit smaller than other brands so when he was wearing one size in other brands, he would be a size or two bigger in carters and gerber.
YES! 0-3 was way too big! Even the newborn size was a little big! She wore newborn size for a few weeks. She was 7lbs11 oz and 20 inches. Just get cozy sleep and play one pieces. Preferably the ones that have the fold over mittens!!!!

I will add that Gerber brand clothes run an entire size smaller though; newborn Gerber sizes are more like preemie.
