Oral Progesterone (pill)

I have been trying to do some research on progesterone bc I am nursing and was prescribed it for my current pregnancy.

I see most women seem to have taken it as vaginal suppositories. My dr prescribed it in a pill (oral route). 

Does anyone know if it's normal to take orally for pregnancy? And what the reason is for the different forms?
