Preferring one breast over the other

Anyone else have this problem? I try putting LO on the 'other' breast as often as I can but he jerks and pulls away from it after the *small* amount of milk has been drained. He wants more right away and doesn't like that it flows slower and it does that cause he never stays on it to build it up like his favorite side.

Re: Preferring one breast over the other

  • totally normal
happened to me a bunch of times too - LO would prefer L over R and other way around
what i would try to do is encourage the least favorite boob first and then offer the favorite, mornings were my best bet when LO was hungriest

  • Try the foot ball hold for the one he doesnt like, you maybe able to trick / it might be the side he likes more then then actual boob / flow
  • It's okay to have a favored side. See kellymom.com.

In fact, some moms only produce milk on one side after a while, and it's OK.

  • the same happened to me! My LC suggested to always offer first the breast that my son liked less and also try the football hold on that side and it worked! good luck!
