Sippy cups with straws

So I saw those sippy cups with weighted straws at the store today. Those are really pretty cool! But one question. How hard is it to clean the straw? How hard is it to clean any straw from a sippy cup? We've steared clear of straw sippy cups because of not wanting to have to deal with dirty straws. Any thoughts?

Re: Sippy cups with straws

  • They actually come with a brush for the straw. I just run it through a couple of times and throw it in the dish washer with my other bottle parts. My LO loves those cups. I would get one to try.

  • Love them, and he knew what to do right away. What she^ said, but I also run water through the top of the straw and kinda pinch the top and wiggle it till I see water go all the way through...makes me feel a little better.
  • We have the Playtex ones with a soft flexible straw and valve part at the top and then a stiff plastic straw part that goes into the cup itself. I just rinse well and then pop in the dishwasher in the little munchkin basket thingy I also use for bottle parts, etc. definitely not as hard to clean as I anticipated!
  • no luck with straws! I don't know why she can't do it! We use the miracle cup.

Have you tried a bottle you can squeeze while she has the straw in her mouth? Kinda like a juice box. Might help her figure it out?
  • We use the Munchkin brand and LO loves it. It has the weighted straw and two handles.

  • I worry my kid will never get the hang of sippy cups. We've tried every kind and all she want to do is either suck on the bottom or the handles and then throws it. But she actually is learning to drink out of a regular glass pretty well when we hold it for her with minimal leaking.
  • What are you LO's drinking from a sippy cup........ Water or juice my daughter has no interest

The nutritionist who came to our local playgroup actually recommended just letting them use a regular glass. Go for it!

I give LO water, but I'm hoping to give him one sippy cup of milk per day when he gets over his recent bout of diarrhea.
  • I do water but sometimes add a tiny bit of apple juice if he hasn't popped in a while.
  • Pooped not popped. Lol
  • Munchkin brand here as well- he loves it!!!
  • We also have a platex sippy cup. She loves it.

We do water too. I'm hoping she'll stick with it. I'm a horrible role model when it comes to drinking enough water.
