Is bed rest maternity leave necessarily?

My job lets us take 16 weeks. I wanted all 16 with DS. Doc put me in bed rest yesterday, 6 weeks before edd of 19 March. I'm not sure if I have to consider this bed rest maternity leave, or if it's in addition to the 16 weeks authorized by the union agreement.
