Baby Bond?

My sister is about 7 weeks behind me and I wanted to get her a shower gift. Instead of getting her baby gear or clothes I was thinking about getting her daughter a bond. Does anyone know about bonds or have any experience with them? Is one better than other? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
